MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1500 Gearbox input shaft wear
| All, would like your opinion on a little issue found when reinstalling a 1500 engine. After struggling to mate the engine and gearbox I eventually gave in and removed the box from the car, joined them and dropped the whole unit in as one... Although a big problem earlier today that's not the issue needing a second opinion! Whilst checking everything over I spotted a noticeable wear ridge on the input shaft where it runs in the bush in the end of the crank and there was a little side to side movement in the frond bearing. I don't intend to remove it again to strip the box (just yet!) but wondered if there is any experience with this type of issue and what the long term impact is likely to be? Can you still get a replacement input shaft or should I look for a spare box for the future? MGmike |
