MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1500 CC engine and Tranmission 485 lbs ?
Recently shipped by truck a 1500 CC engine and transmission with accessories with the company freightquote.com. I put the weight down as 385 lbs based on figures I saw on his forum as 350 pounds. The trucking company sent me an extra bill saying the engine and transmission weighed 485 lbs. Do you think this figure is correct?

The 1500 engine and gearbox weighs 350lbs just read that on another forum.

I read it on the internet so it must be true? Was the 350lbs with or without ancillaries? Why not take the engine and trans as delivered to a breakers yard or scrap metal dealer and get it weighed and then you'll have an accurate figure.

I know this is stupid BUT A local freight company here works weights out by measurement They measure length width and height of the item, which gives them a cubic measurement, and cross reference it to their chart for an estimated weight for charging purposes, it has nothing to do with actual weight.. Their estimation is final, no haggling, thats it. They call it cubic weight. It's more of a charge for space on the truck thing. Maybee that's what has happened to you Cheers Willy

Agree with William - we ship a great deal using UPS, DHL and so on... and most times our packages are far more expensive than their weight suggests since they convert volume into weight for light packages and charge on that basis. It compensates for very large / light packages that take up space in the vessel and reduce the cargo 'weight' carried. A
