MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1275 Tach Prob

The tach in my 72 1275 is not working. Any suggestions?

check that the loop of wire on the induction sensor hasn't become dislodged. Happened to mine once and repositioning it an tightening up the thumb nut cured the problem.

Give it a sharp tap on the glass with finger when engine running; mine needs one every time...

The last time mine stopped working, i actually had to take it apart and re-solder a TINY wire inside the case. (doable, but took me 3 hours to figure out where it needed fixing!)

That said, the most common reason for the tach to not work is bad earth/ground. The tach grounds through the housign getting a solid ground to the metal of the dash (at least in US dash), so if the mounting brackets are a little loose, it can lose the ground.
