MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1275 Alternator

I'm converting a 1275 to an 18ACR Alternator.

Can anyone recommend a suitable fan belt that fits?

Pulleys are all standard.
Nigel Pratt

IF the pulley is the same size as the pulley that came with my 16/17ACR then Halfords (H8)837a (9619122) is a very good fit (just under 83 cm)

I think Halfords offer 3 sizes for the Spridget

curse my fat fingers, no 9 at the start of (619122)

Hi Nige

Mine has a 825mm belt. It could possibly do with a tad less but then I would have to remove the alternator to get the initial fi. The reason for this is that now I have fitted this alternator it fouls the engine mounting when trying o fully retard it to allow belt fitment. This then does not help when fitting. My alternator is simply one I got from and Escort in the scrapyard so maybe the outside diameter is a little large and stops it fully retracting.

Anyway 825mm is the belt and just for reference my alternator pulley is 2.5 inches when measured on its outside diameter. I will be buying the next size down belt next time I buy one. :)

Thank you, Gentlemen. All fitted fine now with a slightly stretched looking belt :-O

what bel and what size, just for reference

and don't forget to check it after a good few miles for fit

If all the pulleys are standard the correct belt size will be one for a Spridget that has an alternator.

was in Halfords today (they were out of stock of what I wanted as usual)

Just for once I had remembered correctly they list three belts for alternators
