MG Midget and Sprite General - Windscreens
Just wondering if anyone has taken apart and replaced the windscreen (after mark 1 midget/2 sprite)for wind down windows. I know alot of things have been said about dont bother get a complete windscreen and frame is this the case. seen cheap windscreen and frame on ebay but just a quick check it doesnt matter what age it came off apart from mark 1 midget 2 sprite.

I don't think that there is a difference in the MK2 or 3 (sprite mkIV). I stripped mine down when it shattered. It is a pain, as you have take the whole thing off the car, but it saved me a fair bit of money by just replacing the glass. If you have the time and don't mind the extra work just replace the glass. It's not that hard to do. If you want a quicker fix, fit a comlete unit.

Windscreens were all the same for wind up windows. The problem with fitting a whole second hand assembly will be the condition of the seals to the scuttle. On the other hand, fitting will be a lot easier than fighting new ones.

Also, on taking apart the frame; the screws can be very very difficult to get loose. Steel in aluminum...

Yep Alex, I had that problem and had to drill them out carefully. Not hard, but time consuming.

Did mine recently MKIII Midge. No problems but the screws will needed replacing. New seal, a bit of washing up liquid and it's not a problem. It's much easier than most other cars when you can unbolt the frame.
