MG Midget and Sprite General - Windscreen Service Recommendation
I recently had a new windscreen fitted to my 1971 Sprite. This is a heated screen which is a little thicker than standard. Initially I took the screen & frame to a local MG specialist who after much aggravation succeeded in fitting the screen without breaking it. However the fit of the rubbers in the frame was horrible and unacceptable to me. In the meantime I had been made aware of a windscreen specialist not too far from where I live. I subsequently left the screen with Old School Windscreens at Longcross near Chertsey. Robert, a director of this family run firm who takes care of the classic side of the business was confident that he could improve on the fit. On collection I was very impressed with the improvement to the point where I would say the rubbers sit in the frame perfectly despite the additional screen thickness. As I was local he also offered to help fit the screen & frame to the car, which he did. I have no connection with Old School other than being a very satisfied customer but I'd happily recommend them to anyone requiring screen fitting for their MG or other classic car. They also do modern screens but I have no experience of that side of the business. Robert is a great bloke and what he does not know about screen fitting to older cars is probably not worth knowing.

Paul, Is that a laminated screen?

Thanks Paul, I've just had a very constructive chat with Rob and my spare frame with new glass should be with them in a couple of weeks.

Hi Lawrence, yes, laminated screen with heating from Frontline. Hi Gary, Hope you are as happy with the result as I am. I have a special packing case designed for a Midget / Sprite screen & frame if you need to get to sent by courier. Left over from a previous refurbishment.

Hi Paul, many thanks for the offer, but I'll just stick the frame and the glass (which is already safely packed) into the footwell of the frog and drop it down one Saturday.

Found this on ebay recently http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MG-MIDGET-HEATED-WINDSCREEN-FREE-UK-P-P-/320768451058 How much do Frontline charge?

Hi Dave, I can't recall the cost exactly but it was £200+ but not as much as the one on ebay, I think. Gary, There is a lovely "caf" at the front of the premises, they do a decent bacon butty. Well worth a visit.

Looking at the Moss website, it would appear that they list a heated 'screen for the MGB but not the Midget, curiously. The price is £246.95, which includes a refundable charge of £42 for the protective delivery box.

I hunted high & low for a Midget heated screen for my k-series engined car to allow me to do away with the heater. Frontline eventually had a batch made which because of the additional thickness made them a bu**er to fit. Old School delivered for me where others either feared to tread or failed to fit adequately. I'd only recently seen the ebay source myself. Good to see that there is an alternative source to Frontline as, given the trouble they had fitting the first ones, I wasn't sure they would continue to make replacements available.
