MG Midget and Sprite General - what size hole is that ?

Hey guys

This might be a stumper.... it is for me

1971 usa spec midget.... intake manifold stock

That screw hole in the center of the manifold next to the throttle cable on th heat shield... what size hole and thread count is that hole and is it metric

It appears to be metric as the thread pitch seems to be 1.50 but is between an M12 and an M14... so im sorta thinking it might be SAE....but the pitch is definatly 1.50... well acording to the pipe tap i gently screwed in, but did not push

Prop, it's not metric for sure. There are no metric fasteners used on the Midget. If it's a pipe type thread then it's most likely British Standard Pipe straight. US pipe threads are tapered but some British pipe threads are straight and rely on a different type of sealing system rather than the interference fit of a US pipe thread. VB sells a plug for that port if the car isn't equipped with a fitting for the engine breather, part number 12-3088 at $3.95. You'll also need the sealing washer 12-535 at .55 . Don't force a standard pipe plug or bolt in, you'll just mess up the manifold.

Prop, if you need to connect something else at that point McMaster Carr has a pretty good selection of BSPP and BSPT fittings. I think the BSPP threads are plain or straight and the BSPT threads are tapered like US pipe threads. The straight threads need a crush washer and flange to seal against, so special fittings are required with washers. http://www.mcmaster.com/#brass-pipe-fittings-and-pipe/=cl7jra
