MG Midget and Sprite General - What is the best size steering wheel?
My Midget came with a 13" steering wheel which I never liked and decided to track down an OEM 15" wheel on E-bay. Having fitted it, I much prefer the driving possition, but find it harder to get in and get out. I just wondered what thoughts others have on steering wheels.

13 inch for the getting in and out, im 1.85mtr A leather moto lita as it gives good grip and feels like youre really holding something( no black swanz jokes intended) :)

you like to stir it up don't you but you’re asking for opinions so here’s mine I like and have got the original size (15½” IIRC) as it gives the nicest feel to the steering especially with the original size, or equivalent, wheels and tyres, as you seem to have of course this is for road use I don’t do track or sports in it the sports and track and those with much more powerful engines will disagree you may have to move the seat back to get in and out of the car with the original size wheel on as even a slim and athletic person like myself does ETA: Arie posted as I was typing he's probably not as slim and athletic as me PS my wife would prefer a small steering wheel as this one catches her belly and thighs

Yes Arie I can understant that, the 13" that was on mine was leather, not sure if it was a Motolita though. I'm quite a big chap (Built for comfort rather than speed) it is a compromise for ease of getting out, but i do prefer the look and the driving experience, again it's down to personal preferance.

ETA: Arie posted as I was typing he's probably not as slim and athletic as me Nigel, its not that but im hung like a donkey and that doesnt go well with a 15 inch steering wheel on your lap in a midget. LOL!!! Okay its friday, id better go home now. ;)

TBH I have to move my seat back because of my big bellt then move it forward again for my very short legs I also prefer the thinner rim of the original style wheels to the thick rim aftermarket ones I think I put a 10" thick rim steering wheel on my Ford Consul Cortina when I was a kid and it got transferd to my mates then Ford Transit van

Arie, I'm sorry to hear that, a friend of mine had that problem but is out of hospital now :)
N Atkins
Tell you what Arie, just as well you're not hung like a HORSE then, otherwise the steering wheel would have to be the size of a 1 euro coin. :)

| Here's mine: K = 14 1/2" Motolita leather MkIII Midget = 15 1/2" Original Frogeye = 16" Original

Yep Neil the MKIII is the same as mine. I see you are in Pembrokeshire, That's where my inlaws moved to. Sorry.
P Ottewell
Ha Ha. My wife is from Coven and my m-i-l still lives in Staffordshire! Result! You call me if you come down to visit. I'll be ringing my m-i-l on Monday. She has a mobile on her broomstick!!!
Neil K
Was down a couple of weeks ago, that's it till my visit next year. Fantastic coastline though, oh and black beef.

LOL!!!

Pete is trying to rough up.some feathers agian...definatly a trouble maker....hahaha Im avg wieght and hieth...im using a 15 inch wooden and love it and it slows the steering responce down just enough... But i think choosing a steering wheel is a individual choice ...like which underware and socks....it just depends on its use Prop

Yeah but do you change it for winter use? He He
Neil K
| My preference is for the larger steering wheel. We have the original on Anita's Midget, I had to hunt out an original one for my '65 Mini as it came with a horrible 13" thing that just took the 'driving pleasure' away and on the Sprite I have an original factory option wood-rim. Mark.

Lose weight - after all - why should it just be the cars that have to?!
rachmacb
I think guys with big steeringwheels are just trying to compensate for something else... ;)
Arie de Best
Much nicer to be able to go round corners with just a flick of the wrist, rather than have to move the whole arm. I prefer small wheels. Slim or fat.(waist that is).
Lawrence Slater
I've got a 12 inch black one with a nice thick grip.................WHAT!? Bernie.
b higginson
Cue Arie!
Neil K
12 inch Bernie? You must have the smallest one on this bbs despite it being black. They say as long as you know how to handle it size doesnt mather... LOL!!! Are we on the thin line yet before being editorial corrected? :)
