MG Midget and Sprite General - What have you asked Santa for this Christmas?
My Daughter asked me the standard question. "What do you want for Christmas Dad? I gave the standard answer " a surprise". I never know what I want for Christmas, any Ideas?
P Ottewell
I'm at a loss with that question too. I can usually think of something, given time, but the desired item usually turns out to be either too expensive or too exotic for the relatives to comprehend, like a better graphics card for my PC, cross-profile ring spanners, or a set of socket wrenches in a decent case that won't split and dump all the sockets into the depths of my tool bag, again. Mothers-in-law glaze over when you mention things like that, and ask if you'd rather have a nice shirt instead, or maybe just cash. -:G:-
Gryf Ketcherside
Cash sounds good as it can be used as beer tokens.
b higginson
I just ordered for 500 quid from minispares for my new engine build. That is my christmas present! Now just a flywheel and pistons and I can get the machining started!
Onno K
Decided on the pistons yet, onno?
Alex G Matla
Yep it's going to be a set of cast omega's Still have to do check my calculations for the dish. But when I buy them depends on a minor insurance issue I have..... Minispares had a winter offer on a lot of parts so it was smarter to buy it now then in the new year. twin piece cooper S damper on the way for now!
Onno K
My standard answer for the past five years has been an "easy-pass" account. This system allows electronic passage through toll roads (multi-State) without stopping. For the M.G. cars, I would like a battery tender for the winter months when we don't drive as often. Regards, Larry C. B/GT & Midget

A variety of tools - most of which my father is arguing with me about! Lots of paint and a Dutch barge... I will probably get smellies - which I find rather insulting!
Ally
5 speed box More space in the garage And a rickenbacker guitar .
d brenchley
I'd rather have time so I can get my Sprite finished... :-( Mark.
M T Boldry
I like the beer tokens and the guitar ideas, but at the end of the day, I'm not really bothered about what I get for Christmas, it's just nice to be thought of.
P Ottewell
Ally What is a Dutch barge?
Onno K
One of these Onno - this is the one I'm looking at quite seriously at the moment. http://barges.apolloduck.co.uk/feature.phtml?id=213191 I've wanted to live on a boat all my life - and plan to make it happen in the next 5 years.
Ally
superb - and it looks like you could park the Midget crossways on the foredeck like the Rhine working bargees do...
David Smith
Ahh one of our Rijn aaken
Onno K
And the F David! Just need to find a gangplank wide enough! And residential mooring near Maidenhead - which seem to be the biggest challenge!
Ally
axle stands... I need axle stands... and lots of em
C L Carter
Another garage. My present one is full up! There isn't enough exposed floor to open out the legs of even one axle stand.
Guy
I was thinking another garage too! Mine is in a block of three, so all I really need is a sledgehammer...
Ally
Please Santa, How about no more christmas? EVER? Or if you really insist on it, please confine it to a few hours on the chosen day. Or, xmas is only to be held on a small island far far far away, from where the sound of all those worn out songs, can't reach me. Anyone for humbug? :)
Lawrence Slater
This year I was able to select my own present and I chose something I'd wanted for well over 30 years. On Friday I'll be the new owner of a Lotus Europa. I'm sure your daughter would love to do the same for you!
B Young
lol Lawrence I like your idea the best!
P Ottewell
Bill Cool!! did some driving in an elan+2 once and if the europa is anything like it it must be grand!
Onno K
Bill, are we to understand it's a present from your daughter? Cool. I've got two daughters, fingers crossed!

This reminds me of the time a previous Australian Prime Minister was contacted by a National Radio station and asked by an interviewer what would he like for Christmas? "A silk tie and a pair of fluffy slippers." was the reply. The interviewer thanked the PM and said his response would be played as part of a package on Christmas Eve. Christmas Eve came and the PM tuned his radio in and heard the presenter "We asked World Leaders what they would like for Christmas and now we shall play there responses." The President of the USA: "Peace on Earth and Goodwill to all." Prime Minister of UK: "An end to poverty and homelesness." Nelson Mandella: "True equality for all mankind." Prime Minister of Aus: "A silk tie and a pair of fluffy slippers." John Shep

What? No one wanted a partridge hanging in a pear tree?
Lawrence Slater
Bill - Congrats on the Europa! I'm jealous! :-) -:G:-
Gryf Ketcherside
I don't have any children and since I lost my wife of 31 years in October I thought I'd spend some of my estate now as I really don't have anyone left to leave it to. Might as well enjoy the years I have left.

Wow :0

I want a Plasma Cutter. More fun than should be legal with your clothes on and VERY useful to boot.

is that JPS colors? as a kid I loved my Matchbox toy car of the Europa I didn't know cars were made of fibreglass until the mid-70s when I saw a Europa cracked on the side and a dink in the lamp post well off the ground, the driver must have totally missed the bend to get the front that far off the ground in a car so low or possibly drink-driving as a lot of it went on back then we have a Europa that turns up for the SBDR at the NEC Classic Motor Show each year, of course I had to have a ride and yes it easily went under the barrier (the guard positively encouraged this as it made him laugh and gave the passengers a moments thought) - the owner was told this year by an Elise driver that the Europa when round bends quicker than the Elise we had another chap in the club who rebuilt an Europa and years later when he could no longer get into the car because of illness he donated it to the Haynes Motor Museum there can't be many cars that feel lower to the ground than the Europa, I should think you could almost drive under some of your country's 'trucks' - and them over you, take care
Nigel Atkins
Bill It looks supurb! I have a pair of those indicators.... My mother has at 60 found love again after one divorce and losing her second man to cancer. I gues I just want to say hang in there anything is possible.
Onno K
Sorry Bill, misunderstood you. But what a superb car!
Alex G Matla
That's really beautiful Bill - well done on your purchase, and, if you're still travelling, safe journey :) Can't wait for my present - nor giving the one I bought, although a barn big enough for all the horses and cars would be nice ...... preferably right outside my back door so I don't ever have to go outside in the winter!
rachmacb
Bill, Looks great, always liked the Europa. We have a club member who was a LBC dealer, and his son got to drive it school! He still has the car. All, For those who are still undecided you could put in your request. Granted you would have to wait until June 2012, but it might be worth it? http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/12/14/prewar-sports-cars-valued-at-12-4-million-to-be-auctioned-at-goodwood/?ref=automobiles Larry C.

If Camelot will give me six numbers I'll be able to afford a GT40 replica.
b higginson
I've got one of these coming on Monday: http://www.korg.co.uk/products/digital_pianos/sv-1/ Excited? You bet. |
MarkH1
Mark, I bet youre neighbours wil love it too. ;) Wow Bill, a Lotus Europe, thats even lower then a midget, no troubles getting in and out? :) Actualy nothing material to wish for at the moment, I thought of world peace for a second but how boring is that? A meteor landing on the Triumph headquarters would be fun tho. LOL!!!!
Arie de Best
I want a 7 cylinder Radial Engine for my 8ft wingspan Boeing Stearman biplane. However I will have to buy it myself because if I put it on the family Christmas List they would find out how much it is going to cost! Eddie.
Eddie Brown
LOL!! Eddie. surely the engine costs are nothing compared what "they" have spent this year on horsestuff. But your right, its better to keep them in the unknown about your spendings on toys. When having my midget K-verted at Frontline I told my ex-girlfriend its just for some routine maintenace on the (1500)engine and wasted the budget for the extension on the house she wanted so badly. Its all a mather of setting priorities isnt it? :) Now she is long-gone history the house is big enough for me without the extencion AND I also have a fast midget too. :) So boys, always follow your hart when it comes to spending on toys, its much more fun then to listen to her. LOL!!
Arie de Best
Christmas just around the corner - and the Christmas tree is looking a bit empty as I won't bring in one of the presents for under it - but I wonder if Santa is reading my e-bay browsing - this is for something with REAL horse power ....... :) http://tinyurl.com/caxoonb
