Just out of interest All aircraft movement was grounded here yesterday as a result of a large plume of volcanic ash arriving from the eruption in South America on the 6th of June I find it unreal to think it took six days to travel around the bottom of the world past the bottom of Africa and then across here and still be thick enough to cause problems with aircraft after a week of traveling They say it will be two or three days before it clears The only good thing about it was last night's sunset, it was the deepest orange you could imagine, just like when the bushfires are about but without the smoke. If it's like it again tonight I'll put a pic. up here.. Cheers Willy 41*south NZ-It's coming your way.

Third day, planes still grounded No ash landing on the ground but I bet if it rained it would be fairly dirty rain The ash cloud is at low to middle cloud level and apparently it's too low to fly under and not safe to fly up through as there is the possibility of engines cutting out Mark - You should be OK , down here they don't think it will get far above Melbourne The story today is that it is clearing but could come round again for another lap in 5-6 days In Tasmania here we have a tourist ship sails every night to Melbourne which carries I think about 750 passengers and is usually booked out weeks ahead but they have found an extra 150 seats by using the seats in the onboard cinema - As soon as they went on the market a weeks worth sold instantly The ships (two identical ) travel at night , one Devonport Tasmania to Melbourne Victoria and the other back the other way. During the summer season they do daylight crossings as well to double up I wouldn't be surprised if this goes on much longer to see a couple of day crossings happen to clear the backlog of stranded travelers Cheers Sorry about the quality of the photos, not a very good photographer I'm afraid

G'day Willy, I saw the lunar eclipse at about 5.30am, 8-) at home after night shift, :-(. It was a cool 9 deg C clear morning and it was beautiful. They said the next one down here is in December "Summer" ;-). Also saw a double rainbow out to sea while at the Coolangatta/ Tweed heads hot rod and rock'n'roll festival on the Queen's Birthday Public Holiday weekend. Nice photo's Phil'Moon eyes'Cuthbert
