MG Midget and Sprite General - Urgent call for marshals

There has been a huge call for marshals for Donnington on 28th August, so, if you have ever wanted to get involved in this vital area of Motorsport then now is your chance.

It really is great fun and the best opportunity to see the action where it really is.

When I get to a proper computer, I'll put further details up for anyone who wants them - but in the meantime please check your diaries to see if you're free.

Thanks
rachmacb

Damn! If I was in the UK I'd be there in a second!

Maybe next year.

LOL Paul - if you're coming back to the UK, are you SURE you've enough room to pack me enough Timmies ... ;)!

Here's the link, sorry I didn't have it on my iPhone earlier.

For those of you all moaning about losing the coverage of F1 - consider going - you DO get to marshall at huge events with experience - and that includes the Grand Prix! Who needs TV when you get there for real :)
rachmacb

Not you as well Rach. I have to send my parents a tin of Tim's to England every few months and we are not even canadian!
Having said that I'm sipping on an extra large double double as I'm writing this. Very nice. England needs a Tim Hortons.

Paul
Paul Barnes

Paul. What is Tim's? I have a cousin in Alberta. If it's good, maybe I could persuade her to send me some.

Bernie.

It's coffee. Tim Horton's is a chain of mostly drive through coffee shops. It's cheap and they sell donuts and sandwiches. A bit like Starbucks but less trendy and much cheaper. Most Canadian towns have at least one and it's a bit of a Canadian institution. In the mornings you see just about everyone walking around with a cup of tim's in their hand.

We're not likely to see one in England any time soon though. They tried to move into the States and failed miserably. Maybe the coffee only appeals to Canadians and Brits in exile!

Tim Horton was a hockey player in the late 60's. He was killed in a car crash returning to Buffalo NY. from a game in Toronto Canada in 1970. As I recall, it was a high speed crash in his Porsche. Most people don't put a face to the name but he is all I think of when I see a Tim Horton's.I was a child when this happened, so I could have some facts wrong. With all that history for everyone to digest, I must say that I love Tim Horton's, and live next to one. I can be found there once or twice a week.
DW Wittkopp

Yes, Tim Horton's can be found almost everywhere! Great for those necessary "pit stops" if one has to answer the "call of nature".

As to his car, I was under the impression it was a Sunbeam Tiger he was killed in. Either way, it was a terrible thing as he was a really good and popular hockey player.
Clive Reddin

I had no idea he was a hockey player! But then I've no idea about hockey either (or football!).

Paul
Paul Barnes

Good grief how can you not like hockey ...????!!!!!!!

Yes, sorry I'm a Timmies addict too - but my choice is for hot chocolate I'm afraid - and my parents steal at least two when they visit :(

Bernie do get some sent to try it.

I'm contemplating a thread hijack to debate as to whether Tim Horton was the greatest player of all time - or whether that belongs to a certain number 99........ ;)
rachmacb

I would love to Marshal at Donington but don't really fancy the 400 mile drive to get there from Aberdeen :(
Jamie Watt

I've tried watching Hockey but l find ita bit boring. But then there are not many sports I can stand watching. Then there's the way they behave when things don't go their way! Fighting is just not sportsman like.
Where about in Canada are you from Rach?

Paul
Paul Barnes

I'm not Paul - although I do have a visa and nearly ended up in Alberta ....!

Suppose all high stakes sports result in that now - sulking testosterone always seems to win the day - seems that fairness and sportsmanlike behaviour has been lost in everything :(
rachmacb

Well Rach, Tiger seems to be a lover not a fighter.
DW Wittkopp

Rach I think you are correct. Modern professional sportsmen are just over paid prima donnas.

How do you have a visa if you are not living here? It runs out after six months if you don't use it and you have to renew them every five years when you live here. Unless one of you parents was canadian!
No point moving to Alberta. All the roads are dead straight, no good for a Brit sports car. Even the roads in BC aren't really very good. Stay in Blighty!
