MG Midget and Sprite General - Trim

What are these strange little fasteners, and how do they work?
I assume that they are trim clips but to have them clipped onto the side of the trim piece seems a bit messy.
Does anyone know where they attach to?

Edit doesn't allow picture upload.

On the back of your door cards there are round holes in the hardboard backing. The parallel sided part of the clip hooks into there and then the pointy spring bit is a push fit into corresponding holes in the door to provide a concealed fixing method. Similarly for the trim panels behind the B posts.

Just as Guy says. In addition, problem can be that as the door cards get older and the 'hardboard' backing softens, the holes they fix into open up/deteriorate making it difficult/impossible to attach to the doorcards.

Thanks.
So all the other trim pieces are held on with screws?
If so how do you line them up?
Sorry if these are obvious questions, this is my first car interior.
BH Harvey

To line them up, get one in place first then use a flashlight if need be to see where the next one will go. Line it up with the hole and push the panel to seat the clip. Not hard, most will be very close to being accurate.

Been a while since I had my door panels etc off but that worked for me.

one other piece of trim held on by those clips is the "r" shaped piece that goes on the B-Pillar (the hood frame bolts over it)

Thanks again
So where do the screws go? can all of the trim panels be adapted to fix via clips?
Is there a padded rail above the door card or is this just vinyl stuck to metal. I bought the car with no interior so don't know what goes where.
And where does this piece of carpet go. It doesnt fit anywhere yet is mentioned in the inventory.

I did like alex...lucky the panals where all going to the land fill

I did a Short cut when i made my new door panals....industrial velcro....sadly it was to good an idea, just bruttle to remove
Prop

Prop, thats a billiant idea!
Cheap, easy assembly etc and simple.
Velcro is the answer.
BH Harvey

Honestly .... in hindsight....id use double stick foam tape. As its rare you will need to pull the panals off. I think the velcro maybe to thick with the thin panals...i made my panals really thick and heavy......thus why im now removi.g them from the footwells and doing more sound deadner and carpet to pick up more leg room width

You want to make sure both surfaces are vary clean and a lite roughed up with sand paper so the adhisive sticks really tight....

If you go the velcro... you want the industial as the glue on the backing is really strong...but like i said...i really think double stixk foam tape may be a better option... certianly less expensive
Prop

the footwell panels, the upside-down U-shape over the tunnel and the long bits on the inner sills are all screwed on, cannot be easily converted to clips as you'd need to drill ruddy great holes everywhere.
Detail depends on model and year, what have you got?
David Smith

Exactly david.

Thats why i went the velcro.... and recommend trying the double stick foam tape.... just a better finished look over screw heads
