MG Midget and Sprite General - This one I don't recognize (NMC)
| I was just clicking around London in Google Maps Street View, and came across a very small car I'd never seen before. See pic - anybody know what this is? Tnx, -:G:-

| Here's another angle: -:G:-

I think that's the same as the electric car that Jonathan Ross uses - oh, of course you wouldn't know who Jonothan Ross is Looks similar to another car, can't remember it at the moment, but this one is actually bigger than the one I'm thinking of and that one has a two stroke engine if I remember correctly damn this old age memory loss!

Thanks, Nigel - That was a quick answer, but my goodness, man, it's about 2 AM your time! ;-) -:G:-

answer but no details just woke up on the seatee from falling asleep to Red Dwarf beer and chinese meal, but I don't have chinese often I will remember the name of the car around 4 am
Nigel Atkins
of course how could I forget this one is the G-Whiz - http://www.greencarsite.co.uk/GREENCARS/GoinGreen-GWIZ-EV.htm now what's that one I'm thinking of called ????? not aixam but ????? urghhhh
Nigel Atkins
something like this but more rounded and smaller - http://www.amsterdamlogue.com/the-worlds-smallest-car.html search took me on to micra thong! and other wierd places!
Nigel Atkins
Those of us who go regularly to France will know of the diesel engined microcar featured here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aixam Very popular in France could it be one of these?
Bob Turbo Midget England
It's a G-wiz as stated above.
Jordan Gibson
Looks like a ""Smaller"" and more economical version of the Mercedes backed smart car.
|
Prop
G-Whiz it is, then! Thanks! Cute little bugger. And as for seeing one in London, I suppose it makes sense: "As well as being green, the G-Wiz makes financial sense too. Due to its zero emissions, it is exempt from road tax and the London Congestion Charge." Not a Smart, Prop... I'm familiar with those, and considered buying one once until the Mrs. put the kabosh on it. BTW, referring to the Canta as the World's Smallest Car? Guess they've never seen a Peel... and we won't talk about the Sinclair. ;-) -:G:-

There's a few different makes of them here, as they are quite common to see. The one that brings a bigger smile to my face is a Ligier (ex F1 ?) If you search for "sans permis" you"ll see more.
Graham
yep, it is a G-Whizz. It's fully electric and looks even more hideous in the flesh than in that picture and is generally terrible! Whilst I admit I have never driven one I hear they are particularly useless on dark, wet nights where the batteries struggle to run the motors, headlights and windscreen wipers (and radio?) at the same time! Better off getting a bike and getting fit!

We get Aixam and Ligier over here too, in fact a freind recently sold an Aixam The car I was trying to place is similar to the Ligier but more rounded and less at the back, might be a two seater, looks like a cartoon or kidies drawing of a car, I saw two in town a couple/few years back Prop - the smart (small s) is not that small now my wife had one of the shorter ones, LHD, for three years from 2000, she wouldn't wait the extra few months for smart to establist their national UK HQ just 20 miles down the road, and bring out the RHD models as it turned out that was a very wise move, she prefered the LHD drive to the RHD (she stepped from the driver's set on the pavement, sidewalk to you) and because of the battery position, I think, the RHD was awkward with handbrake for short drivers smart UK (then part of Daimler/Chrysler) where useless and the Mercedes mechanics were also pretty poor - freinds of mine have had a few Mercedes cars over the years and many problems with a few of them, don't believe all you hear about German build quality although they seemed to have improved over the last couple of years (same with VW, BMW and Audi) We once went to national meet of smart owners as it was nearby and doubled the average age, these youngsters realy knew there stuff, apparantly we had a mark 5(?) version altho' they all looked the same the smart was originally designed by Swatch the watch people, hence the interchangable panels that never really were and was to be an electric car from the start, I think

Nigel, Have a look at www.garagedu12.com/ There's various ones on there, even pickups, vans and a tipper......I wonder when they'll produce an artic. And no, before anyone asks, I don't have any connection with the company.
Graham
Graham thanks for that some funky looking stuff altho' the cars now look same as other modern stuff those truck look great Any idea of the car I was thinking of ? (see below/above)
