MG Midget and Sprite General - Think I might have found a hole
Found this hole a while back only yesturday found out how big it was by using a camera its just behind the passenger wheel right in the corner of the car. Also looking up the hole I can see a bolt not sure what it is for and if its the inner sill exsposed by the way it got past an mot with it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/dsahsprite/6215675490/in/photostream as im sure many other people have had problems uploading a pic on here.

Wow, that's definitely a hole...and doesn't look very healthy!

At first I did think mabye someone put a jack jacked it up and just went straight through it but I doubt it is that.

Not quite sure where you mean this is. But wherever it is, it should by rights have failed the MOT. Chances are it will next time, so you don't really have any choice in the matter if you want to keep the car and keep driving it. You'll have to get a quote for a repair (or diy it). Sad to say, that is not the result of a misplaced jack. The metal has the consistency of flaky pastry, which is likely to prove more widespread than you are able to see. Not uncommon, and you shouldn't be unduly upset. It's par for the course and everything is fixable. :) Time and money is the only downside.

the course wasnt really a goer sadly for this year anyway. it is just next to the outersill right at the end if your looking at the car from the back before the front passenger side wheel.

As an aside, uploading pictures is simple but they must be smaller than 1 mb. As they come out of most cameras they are much bigger than that and the server won't accept them. I get them down to about 300 kb using free software Irfanview and they load up straight away.

I think it's a common rot spot I'm afraid. Can probably be patched relativly easily by a competent garage. My car had a patch on a patch on a patch in this section! Could be a slippery slope of repair after repair though, unless all the rust is cut out and fixed up properly. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! Cheers, Malcolm

That's barely a flesh wound for a midget - a small plate weld and good for quite a few years.

maybe, but if you are lucky enought that massive rust has only developed in that one area and nowhere else then you should play the lottery tomorrow! Malcolm
