MG Midget and Sprite General - The year of the Midget

Well - this year has been an interesting one for the Midget's 50th Birthday

So - don't forget to give it a Christmas present!

Merry Christmas - and all the best for next year all :)

The best Spridget year so far for me (my first), found the car I have been looking for for 2 years, although I missed the very wet Midget50 as I was sunning myself in Sicily, The summer was fantastic and I'm looking forward to 2012. Following the advice from this forum, the best Christmas Present I can give her is a run out on Boxing day. Merry Christmas to all on the BBS and Happy a Spridgeting New year!

We had a great Spridget year!
Started out a little shaky by having the neighbor back into the front of my Midget, got it repaired by shaving off the front and bolting on a Bugeye bonnet.
Painted it up out in front (on the street) with rattle cans.

Put on new shocks from PeterC and some new bushings.
Got a HP head and a pair of HIF4's installed on my Datsun engine.

Got a 5 speed installed, took it out for repair. Installed it again, took it out again for clutch problems, put it in again thinking that was sorted to find it was not, took it out again found the right spacer for the shaft and fork, put it in again and started driving it like I stole it.

Installed a pair of Mazda Miata seats and a heater/massage motor setup on the drivers side.

Peter (my 13 year old son) and I drove it out across America to the USA Midget 50th.
We drove on the Road America track. All out at some points - WOW!!

We met and hung out with a lot of really great Spridget people, we had a massive awesome fun time and then we drove back 2100 miles home. Visiting Mt. Rushmore and Devils Tower monument and places like that along the way.
This has been a VERY good Midget year for us.

Great tales.

'Twas a good year for us, too. We started off by breaking a leaf spring back in May, then scratching my head for weeks trying to figure out a way to repair it - mostly sourcing the rebound clips. Got a lead on the clips, a friend from the local club donated a couple springs from a parts car, et voila. The repaired spring looked as good as new.

I'd also replaced my front dampers with a set of Peter Caldwell's, which have helped... I lowered the front an inch in the process, using spacers.

Later in the summer I dug into the cooling system to investigate some overheating, and ended up replacing the radiator for peace of mind... also inspected the water pump (looked like new), replaced the thermostat, and flushed out the system. Cooling's now spot-on, and I drove the Midge every opportunity I could get through the rest of the summer and fall. There weren't any road trips of any distance, just the usual blatting around the county roads and local pottering. I hope to get the car out during my week off after Christmas, weather allowing... also planning to take our traditional run on New Year's Day.

Cheers to all!

FINALLY got my car back from the repair shop after 2 1/2 years! Runs great and either way I'm pleased as punch because in spite of it all, I missed the thing.

Got a few miles on it this summer and plan on a whole lot more next year. Come on Spring!!!!

If Father Christmas is checking our BBS, a battery tender would be most appreciated. We drove fewer than 1,000 miles in the Midget this past year with Connie recovering from cancer surgery. Hoping things to improve on that in 2012!
