MG Midget and Sprite General - Sill MIDGET name - how is it fitted?

Hi

having a new sill put on my 1500 and bought some of the trims (MIDGET name and the long trim) to put on her.

But how are they fitted? on the back are small sharp prongs..

appreciate some advice please

The outer sill panels should have holes for the pins. If not, somebody on here can post the measurements or a template so you can drill them. This comes up every now and then.

If you are not too bothered about exact letter style, i would use these

Or you could remove the pins and use an adhesive of some sort, although with the letters being largely hollow on the back, that may be tricky.

When I bought my Midget in 95, the PO had done exactly that - on the RH side only, he'd glued the letters onto the wing, just above the curved gap, and not the sill. I removed them, and have all the letters in a baggy in the boot.

You really should have done this about 15-20 years ago. Back then BMH had really nifty self adhesive templates that let you drill holes in just the right spots. They stopped doing that when they started drilling the sill patch panels and shells for the MIDGET letters. Trust me I asked! There are a few other threads where people have made new templates. I have a 1971 MG Midget and I just pulled the letters off so I could measure hole placement. I plan on resheling it and using a 1969 that I'll have to modify into a 1971. I'll se what I can come up with for ya. I've been meaning to put this on my website.

I have just taken the utterly rotten outer sill off my Midget and noticed that there were 10 or so small holes that had been filled with weld and painted over on the outside. Wondered what the hell the person that replaced the sills was doing drilling so many holes in the sill.

Now I have put 2 and 2 together, ahhh! They are for the lettering! I will probably fill them when I replace the sill, one less hole for rust to develop from!

cheers,
