MG Midget and Sprite General - Seat advice

Im looking at getting some new seats for my 1500 but not sure what to go for. I'd like bucket seats ideally but don't like the look of the typical rally-style OTT jobs that you get, i'd rather have something classy looking. I bought new seats about 4 years ago from tinterweb but upon receiving them and trying them out, i found my 6' 1" frame a little 'tight' to get in and had to send them back. Does anyone have any advice or know where i should start my search? As ever, budget is a concern....

Cheers!

Most common seat transfer is from the MGF - they are comfy for even taller than you as they have a longer seat length - and you can adjust the bolsters at the side to however thick you want, so, can be almost as supportive as buckets - and a whole load more comfy (even my dad thinks they are pretty comfy and better than the originals ...!)

Jamie,

I have no idea about your seats, I was actually wondering if you were in Aberdeen city? You mentioned you were in Aberdeen on the thread about being in the north east and I saw a couple of midgets late last summer (a blue rubber bumper and a green chrome bumper) wondering if one of them was you?!

I asked this on the other thread but it didnt get any more responses and quickly dropped down the list!

Malcolm, i am indeed in Aberdeen - sitting on Carden Place as we speak!

You wouldn't have seen my midget on the road recently other than about 3 years ago lying in pieces on the haudagain roundabout - that was a bad day...
Jamie Watt

I'm 10 mins walk away (at work) on Union Terrace. My midget is in pieces in a grage on Abergeldie Terrace. You live on Carden place?! Wow, posh git! ha ha. (or just on BBS at work like the rest of us!)

Have to agree 100% with Rachael (and her Dad)...especially leather ones...
JB Anderson

Didn't realise one can adjust the side bolsters on MGF seats. How do I do that? Perhaps they are not all the same and the answer is I don't on mine?
Guy

Haha, no no, i don’t live on Carden Place, just work here and regularly visit the BBS website throughout the day. I live up in Rosemount i.e. the Mecca of Aberdeen. Union Terrace is a nice area of town, i do hope they pull their fingers out and sort out the gardens though, anyhoo, i digress!

Is your midget up on the road? Is it a 1500?
Jamie Watt

Yeah, mine is a '76 1500 and no it isn't on the road. It is in its component pieces in a pile in my garage with the bodyshell proped up sideways against the wall as I sort out some massive structural rust issues.

The west end is much nicer than grotty rosemount! :-)

Hi, sorry to jump on this thread. The MGF seats - are they a straight swap (1500 Midget) or do they need new runners etc? Also, is it any MGF model or just specific years? (apologies if it's common knowledge that all MGF sets are the same!)
cheers

On the contrary, you’re bringing us back on topic! Anyone know where i can pick up some second hand MGF seats? They seem like they’re going to fit the bill, my only concern being they might look too modern for the car?
Jamie Watt

Have a look on e-bay.That is where I bought mine, which arrived 2 days later perfectly wrapped and in as new condition.
About £100 a seat though, but for black leather in that condition I am still pleased I bought them.
Some lucky people have bought them for £5, or so I've heard!

Re. fitting them, if you do a search on the various Midget forums there have been plenty of threads on what needs to be done, or not, to fit them.
They basically fit fine, but are a tight fit, and you have to swap them over from side to side, ie the MGF driver's seat becomes the Midget passenger's seat.
You also have to remove, if still fitted, the seat belt pretensioners, and I welded some steel bar to the seat runners to make it easier to bolt them in, but some people apparently don't bother.

Anyway, have a search and see what you come up with.
JB Anderson

Yes to 1500 change - although I used their runner rather than the Midget one, mostly because it was in better condition.

Yes, as JB says, swap them over.

Guy - use your imagination!!!!!! No, they don't alter, you have to do it by hand - with upholstery padding and a needle and thread ... ;) Worth it though :)

Jamie - ebay - or scrap yards. They don't look too modern as they fit in completely - here's a photo from the back of mine.
rachmacb

LOL whoops - not having much luck with photos at the moment - here it is

rachmacb

Ah Rach. LOL! I thought that perhaps there was a hidden adjustment somewhere that I had managed to fail to notice over the last 4 years!. I am actually quite happy with the snug fit for me just as they are!
Guy

LOL - perhaps I should have kept quiet then - you could have had fun looking for it :)!!!!
