MG Midget and Sprite General - Photos of My 10 gauge radio consel ..OMG So Cool !

Man did it turn out cool... better then I even envisioned.

I cant get a real good photo Ive taken like 50 photos and these 3 are the best of the lot.. I think because the consel is black and shinny with chome bezel rings

I had the box sprayed in a spray on truck bed linner called rhinno linner... I didnt realize they can do various shines... so they sprayed it gloss so I had to repaint it in satin coal plock to knock off the shine...the texture is not near as bad as it looks... I think once this box gets some age it will loose a little more shine and fit in pretty good

Not sure if you can see it But I dropped my EGT gauge the middle top on the tile floor several weeks ago and now the needle is pegged all the way over to 1600 degrees F... so im hoping it just needs some juice to correct... But im thinking thats a pipe dream... any idea how hard it is to fix something like that or if they can be repaired. havent had time to call auto meter yet... of all the ones to drop, had to be the most expensive

any way heres the photos

Prop

photo number 2... wow that 1st photo looks really good

Prop

and the last of the best looking photos

Prop

Looks really neat Prop. But,,,, I'm trying to figure out just what ten gauges you would need in a Midget....8^)
Bryan Durham

I was just wondering the same, come on Prop what do all these gauges do ?
Btw I dont know why you are worrying about the paint being shiney,YOU CANT SEE IT for gauges Lol.
Rob Newt

Nicely made Prop.... but why do you need to know the time in Tokyo, New York, Paris, London, Hong Kong, Sydney, Berlin, Moscow, Rome and Bombay? LOL!

Are you going to have time to look at the road? ;o)

i don't want to be rude, looks pretty pointless IMO
KISS
R Fowler

Looks like the highways will be safe after all. Prop will be so busy checking all his little dials that he won't have time to drive the little beastie.
That way he will not miss the EGT unit not working well.

HAhaha

In truth, I have to admit as bad as it is... The primary purpose is is Cool factor... Total vaininess, with out a doulbt vanity is my favoite of the 7 deadly sins...LOL. how sad is that...Hahaha

Secondly the reason is ART just to have the pleasure of doing it, The Art and creativity of doing a cool modification ...Making something better then it was intended... in a nut shell I guess thats what modification is ... To me the whole MG thing is more then just my religion its a life long art project, and the car is my canvas... Its hard to explain, If I could do only one activity between being a driver or a buider, Im always going to be in the builder camp... I like the driving, but I love the whole build side from the imagination to researching what is doable, the planning the prototyping/construction and bringing the car to reality... I guess for me bringing this 10 gauge consel into existance and showing the finished prouct is the eqivalant to winning an auto solo/parking lot race. but at this stage im still just in the heat stages... I wont have won until this consel is installed and completely working in the car... but Id say thats goinng to happen q:0)

So what are the gauges?... from left to right

Top Row
1. Vac gauge...#1
2 A/F ratio gauge,,, front carb
3. EGT
4. A/F Ratio,,, Back carb
5. Vac gauge... #2
Lower Row
6. Water temp
7. Volts
8. Oil Pressure
9. Amps
10. Oil temp

Notes...

VAC gauges
on the vac gauges both are hooked up to an electric selinoid valve so I can read 2 vac sources off one gauge. The 1st gauge is hooked up to the front carb and the lower vac hose from the timing cover... the 2nd vac gauge is hooked up to the back carb and the upper vac hose to the valve cover

EGT Gauge

On the EGT gauge it will measure the temps at all 4 spark plugs and the temps on ALL 3 down pipes of the Exhaust header... all at the flip of a rotory switch

Fuel Pressure gauge
Im also going to put an electric fuel pressure gauge in the duel gauge hole next to the tech.

So there it is ... 14 gauges and 22 measurments

Prop

DUH... I forgot to mention another gauge...

My smartphone,

Ill be running the dyno app so it can read Hp, torque, Braking distance, speed in 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 and full mile runs, 0-60, as well as G-force in turns... and its a compass with a built in level, metal detector... Plus its my stereo, GPS mapping... and something else....mmm, OH yes the phone. HAhaha

It sure seemed alot simplier back when the engine was a no go and I had to make driving sounds with my lips and pretend to be driving wwhile parked in the shop...LOL

So.... when you take your car to the mechanic he won't have to hook it up to an engine analyzer.

You never cease to amaze and entertain me.

However, please don't start 10 different threads for the connections of each of the gauges. ;)
Trevor Jessie

HAHhaha

Thanks treavor...

Not a problem, Im sure ive got that covered on hooking up the gauges but ill post some pics of my wiring just because its interesting the direction im going with it
Prop

Where are you installing the oxygen sensors/lambda probes?
R Fowler

Hey fowler

Im installing them in the 2 ouside down tubes of the exhauste header... I found a special weld on buldge that the A/F sensor screws into so its welded on then drilled out and the sensor is screwed into place..I had the 2 bundges installed in the exact same place across from each other

as to the center pipe, I left it alone I figured that reading wont match the others as its simiesed so as long as the 2 outer pipes give the same reading then the carbs are close

Prop

There is just NOTHING one can say .......

KISS was so long since forgotten in Propland, that it's probably a swear word ;)
rachmacb

Kiss... Is such a great rock group, I even like genes show on cable TV...LOL

Hhahaha...
Prop

How you gonna tell the time Prop? You've missed a time clock!
Cheers John

Showing your age again - aren't they all dead now? ;)
rachmacb

"Showing your age again - aren't they all dead now? ;"

Rach, theyre still all alive but your band, The Beatles now that a whole other mather... LOL
Arie de Best

LOL Arie - at least I'm "with it" enough to know the Pussy Cat dolls are no more :P!!!!
rachmacb

They still are in my sick mind and actualy doing it with Girls Aloud...

Making a record I mean. ;)
Arie de Best

And, the inevitable result of this is:

Bjorn Again - at Burghley - the night before Midget50, so, even though you're too scared to come to the Autosolo - you can still go to that - not far from Peterborough and the K's run on Sunday ;)
rachmacb

Rachael, I can assure you that KISS is not understood in Prop land. Might be a rock band, but as a concept it's a foreign language.I suggested it to him many times during the long engine rebuild days.
What I fear is that with all those gauges to look at and monitor for the optimum engine performance Prop might do something like I did as a kid. I was riding my bicycle looking down at the sprocket to try to figure out why my chain kept coming off when I ran into the rear of a parked car. No real damage done except to my pride, but I didn't allow myself to become that focused on anything else when I was driving again.
B Young

10-gauge console? Pfaahh... small beer. I've been busy too, Prop. See pic.

That is probably the single best thing I have seen you write on here in the last year Prop.

Not a problem gryf, Theres not a better way to be high jacked and out proped then that photo

BTW... I heard from Bruce hamper this weekend, and he wants to feature my concel in the next MG news letter for the St. louis Mg car club.

Needless to say Bruce is my new favorite drug dealer of euforia, he knows how to push my feel good button of ....

"Vanity"... Talk about intoxicating Hahaha

Sorry Prop/Gryf, I hadn't seen the other thread when I posted my comment here.
By the way, Prop, you've done a great job with the dial console. I'm a bit of a dial freak myself.
