MG Midget and Sprite General - Peter Burgess - Top Gear Presenter?
I was just watching a show on the BBC called Pointless. Basically, its a quiz and for each question they have pre-asked 100 people for answers to the question. The contestants win if they give a pointless answer, i.e. an answer that none of the surveyed 100 gave to the question. Anyway, the final question was to name a top gear presenter (from the old or new style top gear). One of the pointless answers was Peter Burgess. Surely not THE Peter Burgess?! Do we have a secret celebrity in our midst? Cheers, Malcolm
Malcolm Le Chevalier
sadly not, there is a n other Peter Burgess who is a journalist and works with the AA etc etc. http://www.motoringresearch.com/contact I am more handsome, or so the people I bribe say :) Peter
P Burgess
Probably more useful with a cylinder head too! Thought it might be too good to be true, but also that there can't be that many motoring related Peter Burgesss in the UK! Malcolm

Oh thats great... I guess if you got to share fame, it could be worse... As in with a drug lord or car thief... Never good. Prop
Prop
Thats our problem Prop...Peter Burgess' are as common as muck over here :) No relatives though as my predecessors had a German surname till just b4 the First World War....Great Grandad was known as 'German Jack'! Peter

Almost related - I noticed this week that they're showing the USA version of top gear on bbc3 now. It's rubbish compared to the real thing.
graeme jackson
Im so sorry... I cant belive there going to show our usa version of top gear over there....that is sooooo sad, seriously if your stuck with the choice of watching our top gear, or getting a coffee ennema....go with the coffee ennema... You will be much happeier Notice i didnt make any laughing comments Prop

I can't believe they're sending Top Gear USA over to you guys. I can't believe that they are even still producing it, is is so bad. I thought the BBC was known for quality programming and as such you would gladly pay for it to get it without commercials. There is hardly anything over here worth paying to watch. Jack
Jack Orkin
So how long have you been (bean?) into coffee enemas Prop? I thought Top Gear was good quality 'State-of-the-art' clothes! Peter
P Burgess
what's the point of state of the art clothes on such a handsome man .... Now the bribery can come through .... :) There's a rather nice MGB head on your website :P!
rachmacb
to be fair on usa top gear they did have the first guest with a good taste in car buzz aldrin with an austin healey sprite. But it just doesnt seem to work it is clearly cut lets do it again till we get it perfect ( i know ours is probably just as bad but isnt made as clear as that) and wheres the new ideas like a heli chasing a car where did they get that from.

Yes, the UK version went through any number of changes and foulups (anyone remember Jason?) before it finally gelled. They seem to think that the winning formula can be emulate at will in Australia and/or the USA without all the trial and error. Unfortunately, that is not the case. If they want it to work, they will have to let the other shows suffer through similar trials AND errors. I imagine it was this cloning attitude that warned off Jay Leno... If only they would give the show to Jay and let him run with it, Jeremy would wind up a poor second. Contemplate Jay, Tanner, and Danika with the opportunity to make it interesting instead of doing pointless remakes of the UK show... David "apologies to the UK folks foolish enough to have watched an episode of the TG-USA" Lieb

To be honest I think Top Gear in the UK is well past its sell by date. An element of motoring would be nice from time to time instead of thrashing the tyres off a never ending range of supercars and increasingly puerile staged silliness. The chat bits are OK, the star in the reasonably priced car is still fun and the stig seeing how fast he can get a car round the track is fine. Watching Clarkson powerslide the latest Maserarri is just a waste of time and building trains out of caravans and wrecking perfectly good cars is just a waste of licence payers money. Maybe a partial back to basics approach is called for?

I agree with everything that Matt has said, except the bit about the waste of licence payers money. I think that it is the BBC's biggest selling programe and earns them an absolute fortune. I also tend not to watch it much these days. It has long since ceased to be a "Car" programme and should now be classed as light entertainment/comedy.
Gary & Gaps
<<It's rubbish compared to the real thing>> It must be really bad, then! Also agreeing with Matt and Gary.
Dave O'Neill 2
I agree with Matt, Gary and Dave. I stopped watching it when it became the repetitive rubbish that it now is. It's a wonder Clarkson hasn't got a lung condition from breathing all that tyre smoke. Maybe the American one is a bit different to the original, so could be worth a watch. Or maybe not. Pass the coffee Prop! ;P Bernie.
b higginson
I find the American one not too bad, and the Australian one was much improved this past season. To be honest, I'm a bit over Top Gear UK too - I still watch it, but it is increasingly fake and scripted, with ever less meaningful car content, and so is much less enjoyable to me. My wife refuses to watch it nowadays whereas she used to enjoy it, she far prefers watching 'real car shows' (her words) like Wheeler Dealers, or American Hot Rod where you can see real work and fabrication. I think ours is a minority viewpoint though, all the 'light car fans' (regard themselves as car enthusiasts but have never lifted a spanner) regard Clarkson, Hammond, and May as the holy trinity...
