MG Midget and Sprite General - Oil temp gauges & sensors
Ok ok bear with me. Demon tweaks do a new Smiths gauge (200587028204), but recommend a Smiths sender (£15!!, ebay has senders from a a few quid but don't know if they would work) and voltage regulator. Totalling nigh on £70 delivered for the lot. Does anyone know of a cheaper source for a classic looking gauage? It doesn't have to be Smiths, but I don't fancy neon... I'd rather get the gauge & sender from the same source rather than cobble together myself and risk it not working right. I know, sounds crazy, I must be getting wiser in my old age. Tq

Found a few more on ebay, Durite brand. Mech gauge for £30, not bad value. How about this? 310291438656 Anybody got one in their car as an alternative to a conventional ammeter?

sorry Tarquin don't get yer trollies the wrong way round :) (whoops that was Lancashire?) true Yorkshire spirit but I'd have thought if anyone else on the BBS wanted one they'd have found it already the little metal box could also be a little plastic box as a couple of months back I was helping my mate look for a suitable oil pressure gauge for his classic I know there are loads of suppliers for gauges but most are usually more expensive or risky about whether they work properly on the one I advertised good luck, put in your best (limit) bid and you might get it for a lot less

| Tarquin, dont be such a tight *rse!!!! An electric Smiths oiltempgauge is around € 30,- and I dont know the price of a 1500 temp sens but it cant be much. You already suppose to have a volt-regulator in the midget so hook it up to that.

Is that a 1500 temp sender? Did they have one as standard then? Where did you get that one? I would rather get the gauge and sender together to make sure they work together, as I understand senders can work in different ways. I would be plugging it into the sump bung hole, so I think I would prefer an electric one vs capillary, as I reckon the capillary would be more susceptable to damage by debris etc. tight ass - so what if I am!
