MG Midget and Sprite General - Oh dear... Ebay again!
item no: 150732992091 A lovely looking shell all nicely prepared and painted for: MG MIDGET FULLY RESTORED RUST FREE SHELL CHROME BUMPER TAX EXEMPT RACER PROJECT Shame about the Rubber Bumper reinforcing sections in the boot and engine bay!
Andrew McGee
Yes, spotted that one.
Dave O'Neill2
I have to say..very impressive, esp at just over $1000 I dont get the impression the guy is screwing anyone over by stating its a CB and not a RB... I dont think he knows enough to catch that its a RB... And honestly, i dont know ither The sad .part is the doors are a shade differant in color...i wonder how hard that would be to correct... Granted im not blown away by the color, but GEZ, id love to have had a body like that when i started doing my car... Im sure i could have grown to like the color... Esp for the car and the quality prep and paint jod all for just over $1000 Good find Prop

Well it all depends on how you read this line "IS SET UP FOR THE OLDER TAX EXEMPT CHROME BUMPER TYPE CAR" It does not say it is a CB shell... And the bumper mounts have been cut back and nicely finished. But it is not a completely honest way of advertising.
Onno K
You have a point there Onno But it seems the car was to never have bumpers agian... And he purchased the car as is... So unless your a midget addict, its going to be though for a novice to catch...he does seem very honest in his discription of the car... The doors are a differant color, there are chips in tthe paint, the title maybe an issue as the car has be repatoriated back to the UK, and the boot/bonnet lids are non painted...so thats why im giving the guy the benifit of a doublt...he didnt have to really devulge that info. But you are correct... That tax exempt phrase is troubling In the end... Is the fact that this car is actually a RB and not a CB, that big of a deal... It can still be built to a CB spec without the bumpers.... Mmmm... Okay, yeah if this was built to CB spec as a concuors, now that would be an issue Still, i wouldnt kick this shell out of my shop for scrap metal recycling Prop

He won't have much trouble selling that. More and more, I'm beginning to think I should move house for a bigger garage, or better access to a back garden, where I could buy something like this and store it whilst I fix it up. This is just a nuts and bolts job.
Lawrence Slater
Question is, which engine and gearbox does he have with it? Which carbs and axle casing? I know of at least one racing series which didn't allow 1500 bodyshells (I was asked not to build my replacement racer out of one). Big can of worms :-)
Max max-at-midgetmax-dot-com
It looks like a good body shell - except if you are suspicious, you cannot see what is hidden under the paint! But to refer to it as suitable for a pre-tax chrome bumper cannot just be a lack of knowledge if, as he claims, he had collected the parts and the other two engines with the intention of rebuilding it for his gf. He cannot possibly have done that without picking up on the very obvious differences between the body shells. Scam!

Another cheap RWA - however horrible the colour... 170760978455

Lawrence Slater
"however horrible the colour" How very dare you - better than all the common as muck white/red/greens ! ;-) Am always amazed that people put so few pics of cars on ebay.
Dean Smith ('73 RWA)
Max Which series doesn't allow the 1500 shell? I know someone who is looking at buying a 1500 based racer.
Dave O'Neill2
I think it was FISC a few years back!
Andrew McGee
Yup. I expect it's the same for any of the "historic" series.
Max max-at-midgetmax-dot-com
CSCC allow 1500's to run in the over 1400cc class in the Swinging 60's if that helps.
Andrew McGee
Can't be that hard to take out the strengthening beams to convert a later shell into an apparent earlier one, especially if you use fiberglass bodywork... When we built the first FISC car (it was a RWA shell) I rang up Pieter and asked him what was legal and what wasn't - the reality was at that time he didn't really know and pretty much agreed that everything I suggested was legal. I think he modified his approach to new cars when we turned up and Dave won the first race and then the championship...
James Bilsland
Ah, that would be the car you were still finishing building in the paddock at the first race ;o)
Dave O'Neill2
James. that's exactly what Pieter asked me to do. I was looking at an ex-Owners' Club 1500 to drop a 1380 etc into. In the end I didn't buy another car, David bought me another shell for the existing one. Andrew, you can't really class CSCC as a true "historic" series as it allows all kinds of hybrids and no Appx K requirements. Bit like FISC was really.
Max max-at-midgetmax-dot-com
Didn't realise we were being specific about "historic" race series tbh. Hey I've had an idea.... why not buy that shell as it is and then add an off the shelf Ashley GT bodykit to it and hey presto.... Goodwood here we come. ooooo controversy here we come!
Andrew McGee
At the overinflated price of the Ashley bits it would probably be cheaper and more 'period' to build a Lenham... ;) Dave, yes, that car... :D Actually it was the second race Dave won, but as he didn't start the first race due to a dodgy facet I count it as winning its first race... ;)

The cam is here :-http://www.minisport.com/mini-spare-parts/info_CAMCA3M.html
Dan Cusworth
That 731 cam seems like an incredible bargain(The one in Dan's link). Is it because it is reprofiled and not a billet cam? Bernie.
b higginson
I'm guessing it would be a repro.
Dave O'Neill2
And another.... 320827855395
Andrew McGee
The bodyshell has mysteriously disappeared before the end of the auction. Don't you just hate it when that happens!
Chris H (1970 Midget 1275)
Wow, that was a very strange looking 1972 1500 shell!
