MG Midget and Sprite General - Offensive posting

Hi all,
I could not find a place on this site to report what I think is an offensive post, is there such a link? The posting was by a regular on this site regarding the trip through Africa. I did not find the post amusing and what he alluded to is utter tripe. I will withhold my opinions on his country as I have traveled there and have an informative opinion.

There's a "report abuse" link right below the posts, but I would hope that (and I think I know the post you're referring to) things could perhaps get sorted without that, since all concerned, those who have been offended and those who caused offence, have a vested interest in keep this place the place it is, but that's not up to me, just my €0.02 :)

Hey mark,

There are several locations here on the bbs you can report offensive content, at lower section of this post as well as the home page you signed up thur, and on the page that list all the various marque listings

For mest response, I know the site is moderated, I think our moderators name is mike, but cant remember for certian, so perhaps a special request for help from the site moderator

I have to say, im not familar with any past postings of an offensive nature, but I tend not to read all of them.

Have you tried contacting the person directly, it could just be a interupatation issue due to the written word on its sole bases

granted if it was just outright blantant, as in pornagraphy, direct un-warrented personal attack, or expressing extreme racial religious or poltical views of hate and threats....by all means id go directly to the site monitor, and not mess with trolls of tis nature

On a friendlier note.... I saw a post some time back where bridget the midget was traveling thur south africa, as charty drive, are you going to be a part of that, should be an interestiong event, I know a gil on here by the name of rach whose father is involved, I cant rwmember the name of the thread..... It was a ways back, I want to say, christmas in south africa....but the guy that did rhe trip around the world in a midget for unicef is really amazing guy, id think you would have a great time, and serve a great cause,

Ive been loosely following the drought issues is south africa concerning the etiopians... So sad, it seems like that poor contry always gets hit, but my fear is somlia, it appears we the usa are trying to enforce our will agian, thur food and medician, not sure how I feel aout that, I rwally dont want to see another american occuption but we cant allow sea piracy and kid nappings ither

Anyway, a bit long winded but its been years sence ive seen anyone on here from places outside the norm. So its great to have you abourd

I guess if I made the commitment and sacrafice you have made to be of service to such a tragic case of what can happen to the human condition, im sure id be more then a little sensitive to gestful comments ive made, in your service to these people I can only imagine what you have witnessed, its amazing what one human is capable of doing to another, for the purpose of survival, power, and religion.

For what its worth mark, I do admire any man including you self that makes the commitment you are making to help rise up the value on a people and a nation that suffers so greatly, it takes so,eone of great spirt to put there lives on hold in the service of others. all I can say is its easy to dismiss an improvised nation from 8000 miles away

Mark, it seems that you'll just have to get used to it.

Sadly, a lot of what gets posted on here is so stupid, it's offensive. :)

But I suspect in this case it's a misunderstanding. I read the post in question, and was amused, as I could see it was no more than a piss take. However, I can see also that it could have been construed by some, as being serious. That's the nature of bbs I think.

Let's not all get so pc that we can't be a bit near the mark sometimes. There's enough of that in the real world. (pc I mean).

I think if Mark came to the BBS as totally new and that was the first Prop post he’d ever seen, or tried to read :) then it would look bad as Prop started with - >>I just realized Bob is right....im probably a bigit,<< and then went off on one of his usual style of imaginings

Personally I saw the humour in Prop’s post and hope most of that humour was intentional

I don’t know how much of a bigot Prop is, and let’s face almost all of us are a bit, but Prop is self confessed as >>probably a bigit<< whatever that is :)

Mark read some of Prop’s other posts to get a flavour of the guy, I might be wrong but prop seems to have good intentions and be self-effacing to raise a smile on others

miswriting, reading or misreading a post can give the wrong impression or meaning – I often make mistakes

As said we don’t have to always agree or even necessarily always like each other over much as long generally and overall the contributions add something

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM - if the post refers to Bridget and her travels I feel that the person who wrote the 'utter tripe' may be a bit over the top but is the same who writes similiar 'utter tripe' about most things - with perhaps the odd exception - Midgets - and even then..............

EXACTLY what I was getting at.

We are all people drawn to each other by the love for the Little British Sportscar, and we mostly all have good if not great intentions and we need to read with that filter firmly in place. It's really easy to take offense when none is meant. It's a bit more difficult to ask "if they don't mean to offend then what are they getting on about?" as you might say over 'there'.

To be honest I dont think what I,said was all that offensive, I could and have Said similar things about even my own home town, such is the nature of comedy, granted I perfer to make myself the butt of jokes, unless its arie and his sheep romance,

But what gives me pause is for mark to be brand new and this is his 1st and only thread involvment, that I can tell from searching the arcives, so this does give me pause that mark is a troll just trying to get people worked up, I just dont think people are that sensitive, to such an offensie known as ...perpetuating a stereo type, what I said is not near as vile as what is presented on the news at 5 & 11 or common in friday night date movies.

If mark is real, I certianly look forward to his return, and I will accord him all the respect we warmly give to our newest members

I'd like to think I've got a fair understanding of what's outside my own back yard and although Prop your statements may have been a bit of a stretch I did find them bloody funny. Why? Perhaps because I realised it was not meant to be serious. So I must thank Mark for bringing it to my attention and I too had to do a bit of trolling to find it.

If you've run out of egg shells you need to make a few more omelettes or is that just an Aussie saying "to make an omelette you a have to break a few eggs"?

Oh and Prop you're not moving with the times. I think Beiruit is fairly quite now. I had a colleague that went to Lebanon for a year. We were all worried for him but he came back ok. The problems have just moved to somewhere else. I'll let you pick the country, there's quite a few to choose from.

Nothing to do with Midgets but it's certainly brought some life to the forum. :)

And whilst talking about babies, when I was a teenager, (not so long ago mentality wise), we used to talk about hollowing out babies for bedroom slippers as there didn't appear to be any other use for them. Now that is reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeallly offensive LOL.

And we usually say, "going(g silent) on about" rather than "getting on about" :) :)

It appears that I was too proud of my country in the context of this board. I have subsequently read a number of the gentleman's posting and find that as per a comment by another poster in this thread he does tend to ramble. The rambling however appears to be humorous. I will in future interpret all postings to be in that vein. Prop I extend a hand of friendship and if you are genuine about spending time out here in sunny SA, please look me up. Attached is a photo of my midget close to the end of a 7 day spridget 50th tour in 2008.

Spent a couple of years in SA myself a good number of years ago, however that unfortunately was during the apartheid years so things will have changed beyond recognition no doubt.

I am probably now going to offend our American friends but anyway this is what I believe.

It is common knowledge I would suggest that to an American the world ends at the Atlantic ocean and the Pacific coast. So it is not unusual to see comments like this made from our friend Prop. It is I am afraid simple innocent ignorance of the world outside the USA. When we hear their politicians comments about "our allies in North Korea" and see progammes asking the general population to identify eyerack (Iraq) on the world map none of whom managed it is not hard to understand why innocent remarks made by individuals like our friend Prop will from time to time cause offence.

Perhaps one day awareness of the rest of the world will be gained but for now we must simply understand the reasons for such comments and pity them.

I dont think its ignorance so much as it is space and geograph, with the usa being so large and devided into 3 forms of gov (fed, state local) theres alot of news to keep track of, unless your a news junky, lots will pass you by, im the only one I know of that is aware that the russians will crash ISS in 2020....1/4 dont even know what ISS even is,,,,i think its a matter of selective knowledge, cause its hard to take it all in

ive always found that odd that so many uk nations are so close to world conflicts... From just a few hours drive to no more then a 2 day drive,,,,,heck it takes me at least 4 days just to drive to the grand canyon.....ts hard to belive there can be peace and normalacy and 200 miles away, total human carnage

Mark - Prop e-mailed me earlier quite upset, since it was my posting that he was posting his ramblings on.

I'm really glad that things are now sorted out, and, I'm sure that we all have a bad view of things in each others' lands as reported on TV - after all, I was convinced that I'd be murdered many time in the States, but, sadly for some, this hasn't come to happen!

However, as has been expressed, don't take him to heart, he's totally harmless, and should be outside sorting out his midget :P!!!!!!!!!!!

I do hope that you'll meet up with Roy and Chris on their tour to South Africa, and that this, far from being a problem, means that you'll be included in this lovely forum and get to know more people who love the MGs from all over the world :)

Prop - In Johannesburg, South Africa and the ambush was actually hiding 3 bugeye/frogeye sprites.

Regards Chris and Roy and their Africa Odysy. - I was originally part of the reception committee that were to meet them at the border of Namibia, South Africa. However the timing was not good as my children are writing final exams and as they do home schooling one guess who teaches maths, afrikaans and geography. Also I am slap bang in the middle of a major project at that time so all plans went out of the window.
However to make up for it I am taking the Midget and my son into Namibia, Caprivi strip, Zimbabwe and home in April about 3750 miles. I will be travelling with a chap by the name of Roger Pearce who coincidentally is doing a Cape To Cairo trip the same time as Chris and Roy. They are meeting some where in Kenya. Have a look at this site
