Anyone ever tried lifting an engine with a pair of these? LOL

not sure which is funnier, the description or the price ;-)

Actually, my 1500 has 2 lifting brackets on the engine. One is part of the alternator bracket and the other down by the right rear of the cylinder head. haven't used them but they are there. These look like 2 of the rear brackets though.

Sure beats using the cylinder studs, exhaust studs or wrapping a chain around the engine!

I have seen the brackets listed on occasion for $15.00 each so maybe he's not out of line. Might get someone with limited knowledge buy them though.

There ought not be anything wrong with using the two studs that hold the valve cover on. That's how the factory did it.

I worried about doing it that way, at first, afraid that it would mess up the cylinder head gasket seal, but the 1275 engine only weighs about 300 lbs, with the transmission on it, and a 1500 around 350'ish.

A 5/16" stud with 40 ft-lbs torque has over 600 lbs of tension in it, and since there'd be two of them holding it up, they'd each see less than 200, well below what could disturb the head.

Granted, there are a dozen good ways to move an engine around, but picking it up from the very top is pretty convenient.

The funny part is that these are actually for the tonneau bar and/or the mounting bolts for a hardtop. Imaginative adaptive reuse?
Kim Tonry

Kim, you are correct! Now I looked closer indeed that's what they are. The rear bracket looks similar but has a wavy part to avoid a cylinder head stud.

I went for the get a big mate and lift the engine out using brute force method! We might of struggled getting a good grip on these wee hooks!

Hmm, I messaged the seller and pointed out that these were actually tonneau bar brackets and the sale has now been pulled. I imagine it will get re-listed correctly.

You've spoilt the fun !

I gave away those parts with my previous Spridget as I thought they were only for a hardtop -

- and was later given a full tonneau and rods and had to find a replacement set
