MG Midget and Sprite General - NMC FAO A G Peters
| Hi Alistair Sandra and I just came back from a week in Dumfries and Galloway and we stopped off at the Aero Museum to see 'your' engine and say Hi to David reid for you. He says Hi back and tld me you were into Renault Alpines many years back....we seem to suffer from a surfeit of these on the rollers...although only one ran long enough to do a power run! I attach a pic of the Sabre engine Peter

| We also discovered we had an aquaintance in common with Ray Downes who used to Rally a lot up in the Dumfries and Galloway area, sadly Ray passed away aged 73 last year. I attach a pic of David Reid infront of his favourite BAC Lightning....I remember seeing one displaying at the Rufford car races near York in the late 60,s, it stood on its tail, went very loud and just b***ered off vertically!! | Yep I saw one do exactly the same thing. I seem to remember at the time it was quite an extraodinary feature. |

| Hello Peter, Glad to hear you found the Air museum and met David who no doubt had a few tales to tell! Yes I had 2 Alpine A110's for 15 years,a 1300 VC and a 1600S Group 4 and I am known as Macalpine in mainland Europe. In 10 years historic rallying the 1600 was re-sleeved only once and was rolling-roaded at 152 at the wheels,at 640 kg's it went well and never an oil leak!,but could use rear Michelin TB's in 2-3000 km's. The 1600 had the very rare unburstable big box and lightweight shell, the outline of the sun could be seen through the roof!,wisely it had a full cage. With old age now the Frogeye is still giving us plenty of fun and keeps my knees supple getting in and out! Thanks for the pics; Cheers Alistair. |
