MG Midget and Sprite General - Newcastle in April
I'll be in Newcastle April 16th to the 24th, bringing my Mum home for one last visit. I thought it would be great to meet a Spridget owner or 2 while I'm there; kick some tires, have a pint. In 2007, I had the pleasure of blasting about greater London with Gary in "Gaps", with Nick "Cherry scoop" in hot pursuit. What a great time! I'd also like to take in an autojumble or car show if there are any. Cheers, Tim

You lucky bugger!! Best city in the world! If I was there I'd take you for a spin! Now if you are ever in B.C.......
Paul Barnes
Tim Have a look on MGCC Newcastle's website It's the MG national meeting in Newcastle over Easter starting on the 26th - 29th you might want to stay another week or if not there will probably be plenty going on in preperations the week before Cheers Willy

Any chance you'll be bringing some Timmies???? If I begged really really really really hard :) <<< that was my attempt at a sweet innocent smile!
rachmacb
Whats a Timmie? One of these flexible things women have in their bedcloset? LOL!!!!
Arie de Best
Arie - it is nice to see you back on full form - don't you have a house to go paint?!?!?!?!?! Midget owning women don't need flexible friends (apart from their credit card - from an advert ;)!) as they are already flexible enough :)

| Paul, Newcastle and the surrounding area looks amazing. My cousin has sent a long list of attractions to visit. I might well need a 2nd week to see it all. They even have a pro hockey team, the Vipers. Unfortunately their season will have finished. I hope to make a trip to the West coast next summer so expect a call. Willy, excellent tip on the National meet. I'll definitely check that out. Rach, I can squeeze in a tin of Tim's finest. Fine or regular grind? What could be a better trade for a cruise in your Midget? Is Cambridgeshire west of Bury St. Edmunds? I have another cousin who lives there that we plan to connect with. Many thanks for the feedback. Looking forward to my return trip to Ol' Blighty. Tim

Tim LOL - hot chocolate ...! Is it ok for me to admit I don't drink coffee here ...?! Yup, it should be on the way and is to the west, but I can hook up with you in Bury if you want - it's not so far away. I assume you'll be heading down the A1? Although, the Midget cruise may not happy :( She's in "welding" at the moment, and it's taking a tad longer than I had hoped - although, end of the month might be ok - I hope .....! Can I e-mail you at the e-mail there? Thanks

While T. Horton was once known for his hockey prowess, he's now better known for his coffee. And the hot chocolate is good too. Our itinerary is pretty loose at the moment. Hope to firm it up next week, but it could be dicey when 3 others have input. Travel by committee, always an interesting challenge. Either way, I'm sure something can be arranged. Yes, please feel free to email me.

Tim I may have mislead you - the Newcastle Natmeet I mentioned is Newcastle Australia - Sorry I jumped in a bit boots and all there Hope you enjoy your trip - Willy
William Revit
HA HA, right you are Willy. I did look at the MGCC Newcastle site, but didn't notice it was in Australia. That's a trip for another time when I'm retired.

Cheers Tim I went to the Longford revival show today, which was put on to try and start off an annual historic speed trial/show&shine type event Longford used to be an old Australian road course, it was/is about 4 1/2 miles around it and was last raced on in the late 60's 68 I think One of it's main features was the main straight which measures just over a mile and is known as the Flying Mile Today's event (3 day program) consisted of a static motor show of cars of the era and later high performance cars. The travelling Porsche museum supported by being there in force. They have been travelling around Aust celebrating 60 years of Porsche in Aust. The speed event for each day is a standing start at one end of the straight and travelling probably just 1/2 to 3/4 of the way down the straight through a speed trap and then stopping before the end of the straight, there were some very interesting braking actions going on. This event was supposed to be demonstration only but has already developed into a competition for top speed of the day or personal bests Fastest today was a Suzuki Hyabusa saltlake racer which has clocked over 300 K's on the salt From a standing start on this course today he clocked over 280 Kph We were standing near the speed trap at the end about 20 feet away from the side of the road when he came through - unbelievable - he was just like a bullet and then probably 3 or 4 seconds after he'd passed there was a puff of wind that he had generated - just fantastic to see The only MG there was a MGA twincam coupe that originally raced at longford he clocked 158 K's which is good speed from a standing start over 3/4 mile I would think The ex Allan Moffat CokaCola Mustang had a run that shook the ground as it went past full hook in top gear-- magic and then it had to stop--- Fastest car was a local guy in a late model Commodore coupe at 251 K's The museum Porsches got into the act but I guess were under instructions as they all clocked about the same at 200 K's The Bell/Bellof Rothmans/Lemans car looked fantastic cruising through at 200 and probably on half throttle , what a machine I better stop raving on - a bit revved up after today Willy

Shame it wasn't the week before or after (9th May). Will email you - thanks

Hi I'm in Newcastle. On the 24th we have a drive it day rally which will be all different types of classic cars meeting followed by a drive. From memory 10.15 Linskill School, North Shields. Durham MGCC has a dust of run on the 17th but I don't have the details unfortunately. The local midget club meets first wed of the month so looks like you'll miss that.
L Drew
Sounds like quite a show Willy. Motoring events like this are very rare over here and certainly not at the variety and frequency as in Australia & the UK, or Europe for that matter. We have lots of "show& shines", and on the rare occasion a gymkana or rally. L Drew, actually I fly out on the 25th, so perhaps I will have a chance to see your group before the rally starts. Can you send a Google map? Tim
T Burston
Apologies for the delay, details are Easter Sunday Drive it Day in conjunction with NECPWA as last year. Choice of either or both runs Morning Run 10.15am The Linskill Centre, Linskill Terrace, North Shields NE30 2AY approx 50 miles almost circular route Afternoon Run 1.15pm Blyth Links car park, 1/2 mile north of the Astley Arms Hotel, Seaton Sluice, approx 50 miles almost circular route Finishing off in the rear car park @The White Swan Dinnington where meals are available My car is up for sale but if it hasn't sold I will be there, just look out for the woman in the dark hair in a green RWA.
L Drew
OK then Ms. Drew. I see where the rally starts. Our "base" is a B&B just by the airport. My cousin lives in the Ponteland area. Should be easy enough to get to. Thanks, hope to meet you. Tim |
T Burston
Hi Tim I live approx 12 miles from Ponteland and the airport, westwards on the River Tyne. Not sure what I'm doing on those dates but if you let me know your email I'll drop you a contact number and perhaps I can pop over in the Frog and say hello. j o r d a n @ i d n e t dot c o m Lisa - out of interest what route do those runs take you?
Jordan Gibson
Lisa, your selling your midget? Evil has taken controll of your mind, you want us to call an exorsist? :)
Arie de Best
Jordan, you have mail. Tim

I'm home after 7 glorious days in the UK. I still can't get over the fab weather ( it was rainy and cold, even snow back in WIndsor). It made for a perfect trip. We travelled over 900 miles, going as far north as Burnmouth, Scotland and south to Bury St. Edmonds. Had a blast driving your twisty B roads (we had a M. Benz rental). Such a lovely country. Paul was right, Newcastle is awesome. Saw the Millenium Bridge, Grainger Market. My brother and I took in the Newcastle/ Man U match. Caught up with long lost relatives. Met up with Rach in Stamford at Burghley House, site of Midget 50. Fantastic venue for that event. Wish I could attend. Jordan, we didn't connect but I'll be back soon. Never enough time. Great people, great weather, great trip. Tim
T Burston
Tim you are making me home sick!! I'd love to go home and have a pint on the quayside. I prefer the Tyne Bridge to the modern millennium bridge though. The true symbol of home. Pleased you had a good time Tim. Hopefully next time you go over I'll be living back there! Paul
Paul Barnes
Glad you're home safely. It was lovely to meet you and also show you where midget50 will be! Timmies as ever was more than welcome and hopefully next time we'll be able to muster a working midget!!!
