MG Midget and Sprite General - My little car is finally painted :)
| Well after a long wait of quite a few months my car is finally painted. I hope to have it home next week. :) I got it painted the orginal colour Sapphire Blue. I was hoping to have it back on the road by Summer which would be doable for you guys up north but down here it doesn't give me much time at all, so I'm now going for 'before the end of Summer'. and so it begins.....

| Very Nice.... Im a fan. Is that 2 pack??? Prop |

| I'm a fan too. I'm pleased someone else likes it. I think it's a nice period colour, not a flash modern colour but then neither is the car. Yep 2pack. I've got all these pieces but I can find the lid to the box so this puzzle could take me a little while. |

| Looking good Greg. It's 1275 Midget right..? For others who may wonder about 'original colour' Australia had totally different colours to the UK cars. I've seen some fantastic colours here... :-) Mark. |

| Yes, I was wondering about the "original" colour. It's a great shade, really nice. Greg, Is it just the light, or the newness of the paint? It looks darker (different) I think, when compared to the colour in the picture your vehicle profile. Of course this could be because I'm viewing the world today through dark glasses, thanks to a couple of Australian reds (bottles) last night. :) |

| Yes 1275 and original engine. It was 1360 but I got it sleeved back to std. I'll keep my 45DCOE on it because I'm a bit of a lad. GAN4 VIN:922 |

| Gees Lawrence can't get anything past you. I wouldn't want you as a concourse judge! When I bought the car it was the orginal colour 'Sapphire Blue' as per pic below but I thought it looked a bit dark and dirty so I painted it in a 66 colour which was a bit ligter. That's the colour in my profile pic. I've now gone back to the orginal colour and in hindsight probably would have been a good colour to paint the first time. Although all the colours look different. Good to hear you're drinking the good stuff not that rubbish from acroos the channel. lol

| Greg, I like both colours. The colour it is now, is really eye catching though. Mine's just plain boring old english white. When I got it someone had painted it blue, (not sure what shade, not original anyway), so I painted it back to old english white. Bit I've often thought of changing the colour back to a shade of blue. If I did, I'd use something like yours, perhaps with a metallic tinge. The Oz red I consumed was indeed very good stuff, but also very cheap. Supermarket own brand heavy duty Oz red. Delicious with a chargrilled 1/2 pounder burger and relish. :) |

| Greg, that is a really nice colour. My idea of the perfect Midget, a similar or same blue as that, square arches, wire wheels (painted - definately not chrome!) and the big chrome bumpers. Keep us up to date with progress on the rebuild! |

| Im with you john, Ive got a 71 with a bonnet spear, the 69 slate grill, and the trim at the bottom of the rockers and want to do rwa conversion and go with the big fat bumpers...that should make it intresting Those fat bumpers may catch alot of air, but they sure look sexy Prop |

| Good Job Greg she looks fantastic, I'm almost as green as my Midget. |

| Greg, Good job, I like the colour as well. Here is a chart from the 1969 BMC pamphlet I have for our car from University Motors, London. For the USA, if you wanted blue, Mineral Blue BU.9 was the only selection. Regards, Larry C.

| Greg, Here is the front of the pamphlet, with Addenda regretting that Riviera Blue & Gold Beige Metallic's would not be avilable until further notice. These colours were for B&C/GT's only. Does anyone recall if any Midgets MGB/C's were produced with DuoTones (noted on center panel)? Regards, Larry C.

| I love the color. That will be a beautiful car. Rik |

Well you've all made me happy with my choice. Larry Riveria blue looked nice so a surprise they stopped doing that colour. Duotone, so that's the name for that unique american colour scheme, surely a British sports car deserved better. I thought that colour scheme was a special just for the Grizewalds.

| Greg, Sorry our scanner didn't do well with the darker tones on the colour chart, they all look black. I think BMC had a problem with the metallic paint is why Riviera Blue & Gold Beige were discontinued. Duotones may have refered to body colour vs. the upholstry for the Midget & MGB which were phased out to black at the time. Upholstry color's returned at a later date, but not sure when. Our car is a "PED" (personal export department) car purchased at University Motors (London), and the pamphlet is from the sales department there. Basic's for all Abingdon cars were the same. For export to USA they supplied left hand steering, mileage speedo, laminated windscreen, (red) rear flasher, and other safety equipment, including the octagon knock-off's for the wire wheels. We have the actual build sheet "body production card" for the car which lists all of this. PON307G was the original registration tag assigned at Abingdon for use in the UK. 1969 was a transition year for M.G., you can see the "British Leyland" logo, and The British Motor Corporation Limited listed below in text on the same pamphlet. Regards, Larry C. |

| I mixed my own metallic blue once. I tried to copy a jaguar s type blue.(60's colour). I used Ford azure blue and a tin of silver paint, about 50:50. It came out really well, and I painted my classic capri with it. |
