MG Midget and Sprite General - Mt Panorama, Bathurst
| Last weekend after Saturday's competition we had to change diffs for Sunday. Poke their bums out the back of the trailer and there's all the room in the world. My white Sprite is hanging out the back of a Sprinter van and I had enough height to sit up and remove the diff. And once again we proved that red cars are faster.

lovely sunshine, dry ground, roof over your heads, gosh how I envy you guys! Once changed a broken diff at night, in the open, on a stoney puddley slope, pi55ing with rain, with the car perched on the spare wheels. But that's classic trialling for you. And I'll admit it was Max who lay underneath and got wettest :-)

One of my biggest ambitions is to tick Mount Panorama off my list of circuits I've competed at, will take some planning though I reckon.

| Lads Don't ignore your bucket list, Mt Panorama is just sensational. Mark and Anita are dropping in for a short visit later this morning, perhaps we can source a suitable car that lives here and waits for you guys to come over and drive it. Will discuss possibilities with Mark. I have been gradually ticking boxes for various circuits in Eastern Oz, still have Phillip Island in my sights but not yet in my budget. Last year I towed the trailer about 10,000kms to various events and that is why I got the Sprinter. Much better than towing, and cheaper on fuel. I was at Bathurst for Rounds 1 and 2 of the New South Wales HIllclimb Championship. More fun and more relaxed than racing the full circuit (BTDT). http://hillclimbnsw.com/index.html R1 is short, starting from near the top of Conrod Straight and heading up through the esses to the top. Was 0.05 secs outside the class record (set 1995), Steve Purdy in red Midget knocked off the record. R2 on Sunday is 1.7kms up Mountain Straight and across the top. Very fast. Best time 0.3 outside the record which Steve again lowered, raising the bar for me for next year. Fabulous weekend. Most competitors camp up on top (360 deg views) in the hillclimb pits.

I got a lap round Phillip Island in a Porsche when I was over a few years back and parts of that reminded me of Oulton Park in the setting of Anglesey - with SUNSHINE of course. Maybe we should look at doing something reciprocal at the British circuits or even Spa or the Nordschliefe.

Andy... saw Mike this afternoon and have hatched a 'plan'..... Can you get a syndicate of interested folk to come over at different times..? Mark.

Who knows Mark! I know I'd have to start saving and spare pennies are few and far between at the moment. However where there's a will there's a way. Find out what licencing we'd need to get from CAMS and if it's International, whether International Historic would suffice. When I spoke to CAMS previously they did say that they may consider a comparable licence from the MSA one, however that was on moving over and having an Address in Australia. Worth talking further though. A

my younger son's latest squeeze is from Brisbane and still has family there; he's supposed to be out there for a year from around June so we could well be out again next UK winter...
David Smith
I've emailed Andrew and hope he'll forward to you David. If you get to Brisbane, get in touch, we're an hour away...! Mark.
