MG Midget and Sprite General - Mk1 Midget Restoration Project
| I went to see the MK1 Midget restoration project on the MASC Classified, for those that are interested here is what I found. I can only see part of the car as it was covered with boxes of parts and against one side of the garage wall. For the exposed parts and near side of the body, the car looks very original except there was a repair on the A post, it is still sound. The spring hanger box looks clean and straight (level) no repair there. Inner and outer sills look fine; front chassis rails are straight and no rust. The floor looks original unrepaired, all the wings are sound and no dents or rust. It has wire wheel hubs/axle and a Sprite hard top (non-raked version). From what I see, a lot of parts are there (except the original steering wheel), the seat foams are there and sound. In short, the car is well worth restoring as the shell looks very much original and sound; some of the parts look restored already like the rear axle complete with wire wheel hubs and the front axle assembly. Attached is a photo of whats inside the garage. If anyone interested with more detail, please email me. I really hope someone would take on the project and restore it. Alan

Here is another Mk1 prospect with distinct possibilities. ebay #270816676517 If only I didn't have 3 cars already.Restorable MK 1s are getting pretty rare (except for today !)

Wow.... Mk1s are coming out of hiding... :-) Thanks for posting this Al and good to see you on the BBS again. It looks a brilliant project for someone.. How early Al...? Mark.

Hi Mark, I feel the project deserves a mention as it rare to see such an honest car.The car is a GAN2 1963, it is an easy restoration project for someone. The owner's brother has done quite a lot of work on individual components. IMHO, it's more a clean up and assemble than a search and restore job if you know what I mean. I don't think the owner going to ask for too much. A good clean shell goes for £3k before repaint. I guess £3k would buy the whole lot including the valuable items such as wire wheel conversion, hard top and other original parts. Alan

Alan, Did you persue the IOW Frog which was up for auction (on,I think,Pistonheads).I did e-mail you about it. Roy Cole (roy@geraldineandroy.co.uk)

Hi Roy, Thanks for your message, did try calling you back but keep getting the number wrong. The IOW looks good but the price is likely to be out of my budget. Thanks again. Alan

Quite a tidy looking Frog at a sensible price on Pistonheads. Especially if you don't mind the use of fibreglass bonnet and rear end. http://pistonheads.com/sales/3231120.htm Side view makes it look a bit "perched". But that maybe just the effect of the fibreglass perhaps? Guy
