MG Midget and Sprite General - Message for Mike Howlett of Troon

Hi Mike,

It has been a while since I joined the forum (looking back in the archive it was the 16th of Feb 2011, which considering I bought the Midge' in August 2010 seems a long time to be without the forums help... anyway...

It has been a while since I joined the forum and you, Mike, were the first person to post on my thread and be the first to make me feel welcome. You invited my to join the Scottish MG club and suggested coming along to the MG tootle about in September that was happening near Aberdeen (where I live).

Anyway... I have been thinking about this and been meaning to reply since February, I would really like to come along (at least for an evening or something) and see a few together Midgets (to show my girlfriend what a complete Midget looks like!) and to have a look and take some photos for inspiration. I don't mind coming along in the Rover, if you squint it is almost an MG! :-)

Anyway, thanks for being the first welcoming me to the world of MGs and I would really like to get involved. I would really enjoy it if I could join you.

Cheers,
Malcolm

P.S. Anyone avalible to give me and my girlfriend a quick ride? Show us what we are missing?! :-)

P.P.S. My aim for getting the car on the road is still for the 2013 MG Europe event in Aveimore. Its not far from me, it would be a great first outing for the car!

Hi Malcolm,

Firstly there is no Scottish MG Club. The MG Car Club is what we belong to. The club is divided up into Centres, and we are the Caledonian Centre, covering the whole of Scotland. So if you want to join our club, go onto the main MGCC site www.mgcc.co.uk and you can join there. Because you live in Scotland you will be automatically attached to the Caledonian Centre. As secretary I will receive your details from head office in Abingdon and from then on you will receive monthly emails from me telling you what we are doing.

The Caledonian Centre has its own web site www.mgcaledonian.com and if you select "Events" you can find out what's coming up, and the "News" option gives reports on recent events.

The September Saunter run you mention has been full for some time. It starts at Bridge of Allan and trundles up to Aberdeen. Overnight on the 24th September the group will be staying at the Mercure Ardoe House Hotel, AB12 5YP. Looking at the entry list there are 32 cars entered, but only one Midget, a highly modified 1500, owned by committee member Neil Stables. If you want to meet him that afternoon I'm sure he would be glad to show you his car which has full Frontline kit front and rear, including rear disc brakes. Unfortunately I am not on the event.

Send me your email and I will ask Neil to fix a time to meet you, perhaps before the party go in for dinner.

We will also be arranging a "Natter" - a pub meeting, in the Aberdeen area in the next few months. I can let you have details of that too, once we have worked it out!

We have very few Midgets in our ranks, so I hope you will be able to join us eventually.

All the best, Mike.

I really appreciate the info there Mike. Thank you a lot. I wasn't aware of the set-up of the MGCC, I will look into it and get signed up I think.

I wasn't meaning I wished to come along for the whole trip I just wanted to take the opportunity to have a look at some Midgets whilst there was a group of the locally (if people were willing), and this would hopefully inspire me with my resto! It is therefore a bit of shame there won't be more Midgets.

However, again, thanks for your help, I will get signed up and my e-mail is mlechevalier(at)o2(dot)co(dot)uk for reference.
