MG Midget and Sprite General - Memories of the Summer

This was taken by my Daughter, who spotted us on the A38 on the way back from Lichfield Cars in the park. It was a red hot day...

P Ottewell

Please explain the meaning of "red hot day". Such things are unknown up here. Nice car though.
Mike Howlett

Lol Mike, it was a real scorcher, the first weekend in July, 28 deg C. You may not get temperatures that high, but you do live in a lovely part of the country. He's another as she came up behind us.

P Ottewell

This was crying out for a bit of motion!
Gary will have this whipped away now and onto the front cover of Mascot! <Memories of Summer>

Theres an idea for a magazine filler for Gary, everyones favourite picture of the Spridget Summer.

P Ottewell hope you dont mind me messing with your pic.

Rob Newt

Rob, I don't mind at all, great job and very cleaver.
P Ottewell

How about in Midnight blue?

Rob Newt

Very nice, but I do prefer the Brooklands green....
P Ottewell

Good idea Rob about the summer photo competition. If we get the usual unbelievable response, I'll be hard pushed to decide which of the two images I'll use!
As for the cover shot, the image needs to be portrait and in excess of 1mb.
Gary & Gaps

No brainer really, it's my car and it's green.
P Ottewell

I also prefer Brooklands Green.

Eddie.

Eddie Brown

Eddie, like the hard top, good colour too..
P Ottewell

Lol at the 28 degrees C being a red hot day!
Andrew F

Andrew F... That's a bit cruel... :-) lol

Eddie,

I like your wing vents (I assume they are). How effective are they?
Lawrence Slater

lol Andrew, suppose it would be a normal day down under.
P Ottewell

Lawrence,

Thanks for your comment. It is difficult to say with certainty how effective they are. What I can say for certain is that the car copes well with 241 bhp and never over heats, even when standing still in a traffic jam in hot weather, but that is probably more to do with the overall package. After about 5 minuites the fan swithces on and I would suppose that both the wing and the bonnet vents aid the excit of hot air.

Lawrence,

I forgot to mention, the wing vents are B&Q aluminimum air vents with the corners rounded off. I originally installed them as a temporary measure pending changing the wings for aluminimum ones. However, i and several other people like them so much, the rivets, in my view, add to the period feel of the car.

Eddie Brown

Eddie,

I'd like a closer look at the those vents. Could you post a pic of the vents close up? Or if your on the london bridges, I'll look there?

241bhp? Wow. What's under your bonnet? :)
Lawrence Slater

Hi Lawrence,

The link below will show you the car as it stands at the moment. There is one photo that gives a better view of the vents. I will take some more as soon as I get the car back from Frontline next week.
It has a Rotrex supercharger, modified VVC head on a 1.8 turbo block mated to a Caterham 6 speed gearbox.
If you want more info there are 3 archived threads in 2011 and 1 in 2010 entitled My Supercharged Midget.
Unfortunately I will not get the car back in time to go on the London Bridges run other wise I would have been going.

Regards

Eddie.

Pete, we've actually had an amazingly mild summer here in (western) Sydney, the coolest I can remember, and it's rained most of the past month. The average daily maximum in December was just 25 degrees with only 3 days so far topping 30 (very unusual, we had a couple of days topping 30 in September!). Last year the average daily max in Dec was 29 degrees, and in January it was 32. Low 30s is pleasant enough so long as it's not too humid, it's when the temperatures rise over 40 it starts getting a bit warm!
Andrew F

That's very nice eddie, I like it a lot. I like the vents too, I take a gander in BQ and see if they still have them.

I'm amazed the front number plate is legal?
