MG Midget and Sprite General - Lumbertubs Sprite

Hi all, a newbie here - I recently bought the Lumbertubs Sprite . After about 1,000 hours of meticulous restoration the previous owner decided that is was time to sell. I bought "Tubby" as my 4 year old calls her, with the aim of getting her back on the track with the HRDC next season. It will be good to reunite her with an old sparing partner in MEG 199. I dropped her off with Shaun and Graham of CCK Historic in High Hurstwood Kent a week ago. So far they have started to take her apart and are preparing a (long?) list of things that need to be done....let's hope the bank manager (aka my wife!) is in a good mood when I show her the estimate!! I am aware of the Lumbertubs webpages on Spritespot.com and Martin Ingalls excellent Sebringsprite.com, however if anyone knows of any other information or period photos of Lumbertubs I would appreciate a steer towards it. I have John Sprinzel's book - Lumbertubs appears on page 176 and in the register at the back. I also have a wad of period photos of Lumbertubs at various race meets including Silverstone in 1963 - there is one of her next to MEG 199 taken in 1964 I think, and a few others when Peter Webster was racing her in 1965-1967. Dave Owen supplied me with a number of original race programmes and a copy of Autosport from 1964 with a nice picture of Lumbertubs after a race win. The early to mid period of the 60's is pretty well covered but then the trail goes dead......Thanks all.

The last time I saw it was in the late '90s when it was owned by Paul Woolmer. I don't know who you bought it from.

The Midget & Sprite club meet at the Angel. Addington Green,Nr seven mile lane, each month. The next on Sunday 23rd Oct from 1200hrs. Martin Ingall sometimes comes. If you have nothing else to do come along for a chat.

Thanks - I bought the car off Dave Owen, he bought it off Paul Woolmer in 2000. It was Dave who finally re-built the car from a bare shell plus a few boxes of bits....
Thank you also for the date/time etc of the M & S club. I will try and drop in if I can.
Ian.

Thanks Ian for enligthing me fo the excintance of a "lumbertubs".
Nice lines!

Must dive into my little library of spidget books and see what more I can find out about them (maybe could have done before if I would have finished reading them to the end in the first place). :)

Alex how come you know al this?
You have a special spridget edition of Trivial Pursuit? :)

Arie de Best

Thanks Arie. Lumbertubs is a one-off. The car was built by the Myers brothers in 1963 using a 1959 Frogeye chassis. It was built to the same FIA homologation as the Sprinzel Sebring Sprites, hence the name the Lumbertubs Sebring Sprite. Lumbertubs was the name of the road that the brothers lived in.... :)
