MG Midget and Sprite General - LOL. If you locked ------------
10 spridget owners in a room and asked them to agree on anything at all -----, Can you list 10 things they would ALL agree on? And the 10 things they would most likely ALL disagree on?
Lawrence Slater
I dont know about 10 items But ... Id think planet earth would have to agree im extremely inevative, talanted and imaginative not to metion cutting edge when it comes to midget ideas We can all agree on that, without question im sure. Hahaha Okay 9 more to go....gee that was easy Prop
Prop
heh heh, Prop from what I read, nobody ever agrees with you. lol. :)
Lawrence Slater
1: 1966 Midget Mk III ; BRG 2: w/w 3: fat chrome bumpers 4: 12CC A series engine 5: original black seats and trim with white piping 6: black interior with spoked steering wheel 7: slatted grille [with original aluminium slats] 8: original ribbed 'box 9: original dash and switches/instruments 10: proven provenance for back axle and body shell oops... just described mine!
David Cox
OK David ... now your AGREE list.
Geoff Ev
Well that's a bit of a cheat, but I did say anything at all. lol. And when you say original, you of course mean, in every case, the ORIGINAL items, installed when the car was built in 1966. Do you have a list of 9 other spridget owners who agree completely with your description.? LOL. Geoff.
Lawrence Slater
yes. the parts are those that were fitted in 1966. but all Midgets are all things to all Owners
David Cox
The 1500 engine is the best engine. You can decide whether that goes in the agree or disagree catagory! ;-) Malcolm
Malcolm Le Chevalier
"The 1500 engine is the best engine" That's in a category all on it's own.:)
Lawrence Slater
I suspect that an agree list of 10 is an impossibility. Like travelling faster than light.
Guy
I think your right Guy. My posting this, was inspired by all the other threads in which even the simplest of things seem to find a 10 different answers. :) Not sure about the speed of light anymore though, ever since CERN said their experiments show faster is possible. Mind you the Italians say not, but do you believe them? Disagreement is all around :) Imagine that though if it were true. Some people in a very fast Spridget, could actually observe their Spridgets leaving the factory line, after they have arrived in the dealership, where they bought those same cars. LOL
Lawrence Slater
OK, here are eight. Must get off to work now. Our Midget/s mostly make us smile to drive. The more we drive the more we like the first item. We prefer to drive with the roof off. We sometimes don't understand how such a tiny car could deliver the first four on this list. We have good parts availability. We have the best BBS of all marques. We would be luckier if Prop had spell check. Our Midget/s sometimes make us cry. Regards, Larry C.
Larry C '69 Midget
Props lack of spell checker makes his posts even more amazing David's (Cox) list except whire wheels, steel with chrome hub caps oh and 3 SU pumps fitted, switched and working - just in case, in case :)
Nigel Atkins
Ahhhh see I like props spelling - it's part of his charm - a bit like Arie never getting a girl and Nigel banging on about the handbook that no-one reads .... If it wasn't for these, then the comment about the BBS wouldn't be apt!
rachmacb
Rach, LOL, I read my handbook when new, not sure where it is now though? OK, here are a few more to list under "too-much-fun." Tears, once changed the brake master cylinder (3) times in the span of (2) weeks due to bad machining on the Lockheed bores before I got a good one! Tears, everytime bleeding the clutch hydrolics! Regards, L.C.
Larry C '69 Midget
What? No one reads the handbook?
Dave Brown
I think everyone will agree that there is always at least one more job to do before it is finished.
Dave Brown
"What? No one reads the handbook?" I would agree with that, --- except Nigel reads it, and then reads it to everybody else --- so I have to disagree. :)
Lawrence Slater
Give 'em 10 things that they all agree on, wait half an hour and ask again....................They will all now be disagreeing on most of them, and if you don't agree with me you're wrong! LOL. Bernie.
b higginson
No question. All 1-10. Easy to push.
M Blencowe
MB. Don't bring wind turbines into it. Now there is a subject for disagreeing about.
b higginson
I find life much more intresting not agreeing, I just cant, its not in my nature. :)
Arie de Best
>>I find life much more intresting not agreeing<< I don't agree with that
Nigel Atkins
Yes you do Nigel, you never agree with me lol.
Lawrence Slater
Lawrence, you got me checmate there - I'd have to disagree to say I don't always disagree with you
Nigel Atkins
Handbook?? What handbook
Mike J Pearson
you have to have access to one to read it :) if not you have to ask on the BBS :)
Nigel Atkins
Well there are 12 posters here so far, and I don't think there is any real agreement or disagreement on anything yet lol. Do you all agree on that?
Lawrence Slater
So what does this holy grail of a handbook actually provide? I hear it mentioned so often but I've never seen one. Sounds as elusive as the tassie tiger! I have two workshop manuals, including the orginal BL, several parts catalogues, and even the old Horler book but no handbook. I've owned my Midget for nearly 20 years and start to wonder if life could have been easier with a handbook by my side and how my little baby has made it through life unscathed without it? 1. A manual is helpful 2. So is a parts catalogue. 3. Original Sprite and Midget is a great book for the enthusiast. 4. You really don't need a handbook 5. see 4 6. see 5 7. see 6 8. see 7 9. see 8 10. We probably all agree (well almost) that someone won't agree with my list. :) I agree with David for everything except the colour. It's got to be blue. |
Greg H
| Greg, its manauls for repairs but Handbook for prevention I've often put links so if you've missed them just proves that you can miss things plus they're freely available, you'd need the DVD for an Aus version but UK paper versions here for example - http://www.mgocshop.co.uk/catalog/Online_Catalogue_Handbooks_5.html the relevant owners Handbook will tell you about owning, driving, mantaining and servicing your car if you're new to Spridgets and classics then you might not know or have forgotten just what and how much is involved I soon found a lot of posts from new owners on here would not need to have been asked if the posters have owned a read the relevant Handbook I also found many long term owners didn't know some of the useful information in the Handbook like to properly use the heater controls and stow the hood there are very, very few updates required to revise what's now available in the copy I have and no mistakes that I've found unlike all the publications you mention and I have the fact that you've had the car 20 years and have 20 more years experience, like me, of classic cars probably means there will be little if anything that a copy could add to your knowledge - but you might have forgotten something or perhaps told wrongly about
|
Nigel Atkins
LOL. How can anyone NOT know how to use the heater controls? It's either on or off. lol.
Lawrence Slater
yes I agree - 1. A (paper factory) workshop manual is helpful (perhaps an odd mistake or might not fully cover relevant model but still well worth having) yes I agree - 2. So is a parts (paper factory) catalogue totally agree - 3. Original Sprite and Midget is a great book for the enthusiast agree - 4. You really don't need a handbook (if you are a clued up long term owner of Spridgets and perhaps classics) nope, wrong, not me anyway :) - 10. We probably all agree (well almost) that someone won't agree with my list. :)
Nigel Atkins
fan and flap Lawrence, if you'll pardon the expression or perhaps you don't know because you lack the Handbook :)
Nigel Atkins
Exactly Nigel, and you forgot the tap. (mine's inside, with a spare on the head). Open or shut, on or off. Nobody can get that wrong. How could a user manual improve on that instruction? lol
