MG Midget and Sprite General - Lane Museum (with a bit of Midgety stuff)

A bit belated, but it took me a while to get all the captions and info links posted. The Mrs. and I took a trip to Nashville on April 9 with the St. Louis MINI Club, destination the Lane Motor Museum. It's a pretty extraordinary collection, especially if you're into motoring oddities.

Note that they had an MGF, and I wanted to take it home. Sigh. It's the only one I've ever seen in the States.

Enjoy!

Not saying that there are not fantastic car's in there!
Just a strange set and some in a bit of a strange state.

Though I have been spoilt with classic racing events and I just don't enjoy classic's as mutch when they are not also driving.

The smell and sound is a big part of the enjoyment for me

Onno,

I need to qualify my last statement....nothing agianst you, its here in fly over country, if we want to do something... we just do it, alot of times theres not a lot of ryhem , reason or logic....it just is what it is... weather it be selling funny looking rocks by the side of the road, a musem for shaved beard hair... its like art... the true passion is held in rthe mind of the beholder

In missouri little musuems like these are everywhere ive often wanted to go to the corn cob pipe museum in st louis...after all st louis is the worlds capital of corn cob pipes.... seriously it is...lol

In missouri... our slogan is known as ... The show me state...if you got something strange to show off... trust me... in missouri we want to see it....

Aka.... i got a euro hatch back car thats a real piece of junk with dutch plates ... you want to see it....(in missouri... we say Show Me)

From nascar commeritve plates and blqck valvet elvis to 60 year old stuffed stuffed dear heads... we got a musem for everythingif your willing to look for it.

So the fact that this car museum has some strange out of places pieces, would only be unusal if they werent on display.

Truthfully... i cant imagine living anywhere else...i am the midwest.

The Lane museum is a little unusual in that all of their cars are not in A-1, pristine, restored condition. Some are, but many are driven and are maintained, but show their age. I was at a British car show in Nashville and Jeff Lane had 4-5 cars from his collection driven to the show field for display, including the polished aluminum Hewson Rocket and the Helicron (the blue one with the prop on the front - not our Prop, but a wooden prop). When it drove across the field, it sounded like an airplane taxiing! Onno, their website mentions that they are one of the few US museums that specialize in European cars, hence the number of specimens from your side. Oh, and there is another British connection. The collection is housed in an old bakery building that used to be the Sunbeam Bakery!

I love that they are real cars and that they are as they have become over their life.
But then they have a steam streamliner prototype that never ran and never was painted and they say that they will finish it?

That's why i don't get it
If you keep the cars with respect for their life than maintain but don't change them.

But it must be as you said they do as they please!
As is their full right

And, once again, 24 September and 1 October are the Rally for the Lane, a fund-raising event wherein, for a fee, YOU can drive one of their vehicles in a gimmick rally (no high speed WRC stuff).

Scroll to the bottom of the page for the list of Citroens, Fiats, Lamborghini Urraco, Renaults, Tatras, etc. available.

There ya go, Gryf. You can "buy" the MGF to drive on the rally! That actually looks like a pretty fun deal they have planned.
Jack Orkin

Well, you know THAT'S sorely tempting. You guys "over there" can see MGFs every day, but here in the US the F (and new TF) was the MG we never got. So yeah, one of my little fantasies is to drive an MGF someday.

Ooh. Just checked the rally details. I know it's for an excellent cause, but that's pricy. :-(
