MG Midget and Sprite General - I've been offered a ...... (Midget Content!
...another Midget (well that's a surprise). This one is a 1964 1098. I haven't seen it however the current owner states it's sold and doesn't need any bodywork doing to it. He also says that the engine was fully rebuilt a couple of 100 miles before it was parked up 12 years ago. The car was previously a Sprint competition car and apparently was fairly successful with him at the wheel (this I know from another person). It has an LSD and Tramp Bars fitted btw. So the big question is.... what initially would it be worth? The next big question is... do I really need yet another Midget even though this could be FIA eligible? Thoughts readily sought! Andrew

No, I don't think you need another Midget. On the other hand, I don't have a Midget at the moment!

Parked up 12 years ago...... Could mean a lot of work. Is it a thick yournal 1098? Might be important if your looking at the fia thing. And is it mkI or mkII body/ suspention. All very important. Un seen with the info you give 1500/2000 quid max But only if the body is hard, the engine is free and the car is complete. If it looks good and starts then it is an other story

I'll have the LSD if you don't want it :0)
Gary & Gaps
if you want to come to "Midget II Sprite III 50", you better get it bought Andy... Seriously, if you want a FIA option, it sounds quite interesting, but surely its condition is going to be a key factor. You know we're fans of the GAN3 HAN8 in Mothyland. But would you have to part with your current road midget to make space for it?
Mothy
Morning Tim. More than likely would part with the Jubilee as that needs some major bodywork to get it back on the road and I'm not that skilled with the MIG yet. The lads are showing interest in the cars now, Robert has put about 40 hours in on the red car that's underway at the moment as this one is heading towards being the "Junior" team race car so that means we'd need 1 more to be fair to each of them. However it is getting a bit silly having already got 3 complete Midgets (and several in bits in the sheds). So yes, one MG would have to go, although maybe Nev might fancy having one in his garage for a while :-) A

so little detail on the spec it's difficult to value it even for parts. cage? hot engine? weber? fancy wheels? is it roadgoing spec or track only? If it will run then next Q is what would it take to get an MOT? if you want an FIA car then what can you use from it other than the V5 and maybe the shell, axle, suspension?
David Smith
I'll be asking for some photo's as it's a not that local to me (and I'm going to be a grumpy selfish beggar and keep it's whereabouts close to my chest until I decide whether to have it or not :D ) and then take a view whether to go see it in the flesh or not. Might have found somewhere to keep one of the other ones (ie the Jubilee - long term storage for that I think) which will allow it to come home - if we decide to have it of course ;-) I can already tell that I'm suckered again! :-)
Andrew McGee
Andrew, I think you should do it if the car is in good enough nick. This will be quality time with your boys! better do tell them to start get little jobs to wheel in some money for maintenance themselves. :) I do feel sorry for your wife tho. :)

Buy one for her too. No such thing as too many Midgets.
Paul Walbran
Or maybe rebadge it as a sprite so you can get into Austin Healy scene too, dress up posh and tell your a surgeon or something like that. Stop racing and go for show & shine? LOL!!!

Sense is prevailing for once in my life concerning cars. I am doing my best not to get this so if anyone seriously out there is interested to go see it then I can let them have the information. email me off here though please. racecar 555 at yahoo dot co dot uk without the spaces and with the things as they should be. Andrew
Andrew McGee
Oops wrong address it should be racecar underscore 555 at yahoo dot cot dot uk as you were :D
Andrew McGee
Andrew, just do it. You know it makes sense. On your deathbed you'll never say "I wish I had bought fewer Midgets" but you may say "I wish I hadn't let that FIA car go through my fingers" OK, OK I understand that when SWMBO realises what you've done your deathbed may be closer than you think, but hey I reckon getting old is overrated.

LOL Max - you can talk after selling such an expensive concours racer to me to purchase your Porsche :P!!!! Buy it Andrew - and sell the LSD to Gary for £800 to fund it ;)
rachmacb
Rach, Gary is a realestate agent in London, he can easely pay more! ;) Andrew, I wouldnt like to be in your shoes(beside the smell), you know youll be haunted with regret if you dont buy it. Voices in your head will wake you in the middle of the night, it will be unbareble! And if the voices in your head fade away in time we will still remind you of it, there is simply no escape of it. LOL!!

Look my neighbours think I'm a Rogue Car Trader of Gypsy parentage (no racism intended - that's just what they've written to the council saying - seriously!). Anyhow, currently non of the Classics are parked at the front of the house and non for once are parked outside any longer. I'm trying to be a responsible Citizen and keep everything tidy and undercover so we don't get any hassle or intimidation from one specific neighbour.... or shall I simply say "Feck it!" and get it anyhow :-)
Andrew McGee
Yes... ;-)
James B
... and tell your neighbour to feck off...
James B
Eugh - neighbours must be awful (says she with none within 500 metres :)!) Get it anyway - and park it right outside their house - and weld it every night ;) And Arie - if I thought Gary would be up for more - I'd think about selling him mine for £1000 :P
rachmacb
Yes :-) My precious.....come to me my preciousssssssss... And tell your neighbour the boys'll come round if he's not careful. Send him a photo of my place, it'll make yours seem like Buck Pal in comparison and he'll realise how lucky he is! Currently around the garden I've got: Porsche 924 (moving from "wreck" to "scruffy") Peugeot 406 (moving from "smart" to "scruffy") Arkley Midget on axle stands (moving from "scruffy" to "wreck") Early Midget (moving from "wreck" to, er, "wreck") MGZS (could be smart if I washed it and fixed it) Pile of scrap waiting to be weighed in (moving from "scrap" to "rust") Assorted wheels and tyres (moving nowhere)
Max max-at-midgetmax-dot-com
My vote: feck the neighbours!
