MG Midget and Sprite General - It's so ugly that I think that I like it!
| I tried the Bermuda top on the Frogeye yesterday and wow is it ugly! However I quite like it in a perverse sort of way. Sort of a bit like seeing people's reaction if you were to turn up wearing ripped jeans to a realy posh restaurant. Bear in mind that there are no body to roof seals fitted and it hasn't been washed for probably 20 years (unlike my car which was washed last year).
|
Gary & Gaps
perhaps sir would like it in a different colourway? We also sell soap... Nice and light inside there Gary, do you have the seals for it?
Bill 1
Well Gary it is different. Like you say, you have to have a bit of perversity to actually like that look. ;-)
B Young
Sorry Gary, YUK! You don't need seals. The gaps suit the car. Ha ha Cheeky I know!
Neil K
Another good reason for a 1500 - mine looks lovely with the Bermuda top!
rachmacb
Can't say that I dissagree, however it does fit over my roll bar too and it has a (yet to be connected) interior light......pure luxury:0)
Gary & Gaps
Gary, you would need the matching shirt and shorts to go with it. Now THAT would be ugly!
Guy
It tries too hard to have glass. Someone should have designed it in daylight. A
Anthony Cutler
Gary, I thought the Watford top was ugly from the front but at least from the side and the rear it looked great. The Bermuda's glazing just looks like a three year old's drawing of a car. Turn it upside down and fill it with goldfish!
Matt1275 Bucks
Blimey! It looks somewhat like a grey chameleon perched on a frogeye, blinking languidly as the sun rises over the steaming jungle. That slotty-eye thing is scarily reptilian, even stranger sitting on the world's only amphibian-themed car. Was it love at first sight, or did you wake up and wonder how many pints you had sunk the previous evening and then feel ashamed? Pretty good visibility though, and you could propagate some sturdy tomato plants in the spring. I find it strangely attractive, but I'm not sure why.
C Whiting
Since it's such a hit with everybody, here are a few more angles.
|
Gary & Gaps
Try as I might, I just cant find an attractive angle.
|
Gary & Gaps
It would probably look better it it was the same colour as the car, but I very much doubt it. It looks out of proportion to the car and looks like some sort of mutant that has been subjected to radiation!
Neil K
.............I don't know what to say!
David Wigley (MK2 Sprite)
After all of these comments, the roof is now in therapy. We are telling it that it's not an abomination, it's just that it's different and that makes it special. However at the moment the prognosis is that Psychosis has set in and we're not sure that it will make a full recovery. At this point it's touch and go whether it will be able to take its place in society and lead a normal existance or have to be placed in some kind of institution :0) We shall see.
Gary & Gaps
I actually like it - do I need therapy rather than the roof?
John Collinson
John fit it to the racer It might even fit over the rollcage!
Onno Könemann
It does fit over the rollcage (at least a safety devices rear which sits 1 inch higher than usual).
Gary & Gaps
Gary, I've changed my mind. you should leave it on as the sublime way the rear buttresses mould seamlessly into your rear wings draws the eye away from the fit of your bonnet!
Matt1275 Bucks
er, I think it's the sidescreens that spoil the look . . . I'll get me coat
Nigel Atkins
If the rear section and back glass were curved out instead of in, like some of the big Healey hardtops, I think it would look great. It seems odd they did it that way since the Frog doesn't have a rear deck lid. Charley
C R Huff
The Pontiac Aztec of bugeye accessories. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontiac_Aztek the funny thing with this link is that it doesn't look as bad in their photos as it does in real life Norm
Norm Kerr
Norm. That Pontiac is pretty ugly, but there does seem to be a competition going on at the moment between the major manufacturers as to who can produce the ugliest car. Have you seen the Volvo Q7 4WD pig? Now that's UGLY! Bernie.
b higginson
Nissan Juke gets my vote for damn ugly! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Juke from every angle it is hideous and it is HUGE on the outside and looks tiny on the inside. For some reason that hasn't stopped people buying them! Malcolm
M Le Chevalier
Malcolm. I was behind a Juke earlier today and I said to my wife that they'd spelled the name wrong by putting a u where there should be an o. Bernie.
b higginson
ner, they should have put a P instead of the J as that what it makes you do when you look at it ha ha. Malcolm
M Le Chevalier
I thought the FIAT Multipla was bad but I think my opinion may be changing.
David Billington
My, that's quite dire. I must say though that it's the first time I've ever seen such a roof. Do you know any background on them? You have to admit that outward visibility with that lid would be much better than with the "normal" variety. Cheers, -:G:-
Gryf Ketcherside
The one for the square bodied Spridgets actually looks very nice to me.
Gary & Gaps
some fuglier stuff here...if it makes Gary feel better!! http://www.wheels.ca/article/794774
RUS(59SPRITE)
Gary - is this top necessarily for the frogeye? It looks like it might fit a sidescreen square-bodied Spridget a bit better. Perhaps having spent so long developing it, they didn't think it worthwhile producing two tops for the sidescreen cars? As for the 'ugliness' - that patented reverse-curve rear window is clearly so ugly Ferrari felt they simply had to use it on the Dino and Jaguar on the XJS! Such ugly cars ... Tom
Tom Coulthard
There's a thought!
Gary & Gaps
Cant someone photoshop it to red. It might look better.
A Anstead
The fugly hardtop's much larger cousin, also done up in red:
|
Ken
"It's so ugly that I think that I like it!" Wow Gary, this is a totally different subject then I suspected when reading the title, its about a hardtop!!! I thought it was about you quoting your mother when you where born... LOL!!!
Arie de Best
| ...and here's another lovely piece of glassware. I tried (in vain) to peruade my wife to let me bid on this.
|
t halket
Why is Ken showing Gary's office? T'aint that 'orrid, I quite liked those as well
Bill 1
I like it.
