MG Midget and Sprite General - isle of wight frogs
does the car actually still count at historic tax (free) is their enough of the original car left to say its ok. also do they find the car or do you seen afew and do look good and no rust is a bonus but curious about how the taxing works. Also much better than some home made ones saw one in mascot (migdet and sprite mag) and i wasnt too impressed seemed like the wheel arches didnt look right.

That was a Banham Sprint which is front wheel drive with a transverse engine, quite a different thing but still worth highlighting in the magazine.

yes qutie right thanks for putting that in still dont think the wheel arches even on the back looked right but does that have the same problems the a isle of wight one has to seems abit of a mine feild when comming to jobs like that.

The original Frogeye Car Company 'Healey Frogeye' cars were based on a donor chassis (or bits of it anyway) and will still be registered as the donor car. Mine for example is registered as a 1964 Midget and hence qualifies for the zero rate road tax. Both factory-built (like mine) and DIY kit versions were available, but as long as the chassis donor is pre-'73 they'll be free to tax. FCC later launched an all-new model with no donor parts and a K Series engine, called the Supersprite. This had to conform to type approval, so they'll be marked out by yellow front indicators with side repeaters, reverse lights etc. These models will be registered some time in the early '90s so won't be free to tax.

Thats silverstone classic probablly walked past your car. mine was probably at the end of the row or out on the retro run on saturday.
D Sartain
Yep. There was a red IOW in the row too on at least one of the days.

Dan. Mike Bennet has a blue one which you've probably seen. A very nice car. He will be able to answer all your questions tomorrow night at the meeting. Bernie.

The explanation from Jordan Gibson above is spot-on. My IOW Frog is based on a 1965 Healey Sprite MK2, and as such is tax-free. I've changed the number plate though to one with no date letter.

Delighted to hear that Mike Bennett is around and active - I spent some time trying to register my IOW Frogeye through the Elmo site without success. If anyone is in touch with him could they ask if if it is possible to re-activate the wonderful site? We really do need an IOW register. And on the thread subject, mine is based on a 63 Midget, 650 UTG, and is gloriously tax-free.

IoW Frogeyes are amazingly accurate to my mind. From the outside you can't tell the difference! Never actually been in one but I imagine they are a hot to drive too. Mark
