MG Midget and Sprite General - Is midget 50 in jeapordy?
| Most important... I DO NOT WANT TO MAKE THIS A POLITICAL DEBATE! id really like to keep this thread on a "how does this apply to us and does it effect you." With All the B.S. going on in the politics of wisconsin, the issues of last night (march 9th) kind of upset the cheese cart I guess To those that are members of organized labor, are you going to cross any possiable state boycott or union stike lines if this union busting attempt by the Gov. goes into the summer... just alot of rumor at the moment, And ive had a few converstions with others that may not cross those lines if they take place Im not union, but my path does cross with the union from time to time with work and local issues... with work being UN-godly slow (painter), I dont want to burn any bridges or at the vary least make the union an enemy. Until last night I was a definate YES to midget 50, now Im in a holding pattern as to what happens and the public sentiment at the time of midget 50 To those that are affected by this mess... what are you guys thinking and will you cross any lines if it goes that far. | I really need to brush up on current affairs :S WTF you on about ??? :P |
PeterJMoore
I'm IN WISCONSIN and I must echo Peter's last question.
Peter Caldwell
Lol I had a panic then that Prop knew something I didn't ... So the relief was palpable that I'm presuming he means the stuff with the Unions which is, no doubt, being over hyped in the mass press - and as good an excuse as any to avoid driving the car!!!

Prop, I wouldn't worry about this, by July all will be settled out up there. I really doubt if it would have become such a media event if the capitol wasn't in the same city as the state university. I think a lot of the protesters are just students stirred up and they will certainly fade away at the end of this term. Most people, even union members have to be at work making a living so protesting every day is soon too much to keep up. As for going to Wisconsin if the unions place a boycott on it, I'll go ahead. In this economy the folks up there need our business just as you need more business here. Failing to visit Wisconsin wouldn't hurt the state government at all except for some bit of tax revinue on what we spend up there, but it would hurt the people who service the hotels, bars, and restaraunts in the area.

Thank you Bill... Your echoing all the issues and concerns that need to be wieghed. With the state governor and his party effectively Busting the union last night, esp in the way that it was done... I dont think the (former public employee union)or unions on a national level are going to lay down and just take this on the chin... I think we are just at the beginning of this issue Obviously if natioanal unions or the former state public employee union will fight this tooth and nail to the vary end... it seems the obvioius tactic will be a union boycott/strick of the state its self on a national level and a state level. But i seriously hope your correct, now that the state public union has been beaten and broken and is no more as of last night... im really hoping all those people in the police firefighter teachers state employees public union will NOT fight this and accept it that they are now just regular people just like the rest of this... other wise it cold turn into a real mess if they fight this discession last night. that will go on indenitly.

Prop, Not to worry, I doubt you'll run into another Blair Mountain in Wisconsin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Blair_Mountain L.C.

Prop, good old mate, why would anything but a non-driving-midget or serious illnes stop you from going to midget 50? Who cares about unions, council/goverment/state-employees? Its the biggest bunch of anti-productive mammals on this planet.
Arie de Best
Careful Arie, there could be some on here. Not me, but you never know who you are offending and I'm sure they're not all anti productive. Bernie.
b higginson
Prop- You don't have to be worried about Police, Firefighters, and State Patrols. They're exempt from the legislation. Not that it has anyting at all to do with the fact that they were the unions that supported Walker for election....Just don't get caught trying to smuggle a Democratic State Senator into WI from IL.
Tim Michnay
Bernie, your right, I could be offending people here(although I doubt anybody will dare to admit being a civil-servant) :) Im still in the middle of an issue with the local council... its already taking them 4 weeks to handle a standard procedure permit-request. The official time it takes them to get me my permit is 2 weeks max!the lady says... thats already 4 weeks ago... the hours ive spend in endles phonecalls and visits to Cityhall before being able of actualy turning in a official request. Btw, how come non of them work normal hours? Phone Cityhall and find that the person that handles that issue is either sick or only works 2 days a week or doesnt work when you call(not work during normal office hours??). when you ask for another one who can handle that issuse you get the same blody excuses why the first one isnt in. After 7!!! attempts of the telephone-lady to connect me to anyone I get some sort of appoligy from here that she countnt put in contact with anybody....??? I think 25 people from the private sector could do the same amound of work that 100 civil servants do. In some cultures it must be an art to pretent working and starting to believe it yourself. :) Do I sound a bit bitter? No ofcourse not, I love civil servants, dont we all!! LOL!!!
Arie de Best
| Thanks Arie! As Assistant MIS Director for the Village of Niles, I must pretend to take offence here ;-) Prop, Chill already. None of the MO union dudes will be able to keep up with your Midget to see if you cross the Cheddar Curtain. Just change to the Minnesota plates on your way through Illinois and you will be fine. | I think that some civil servants really do deserve that reputation. Not all. I work for the #1 Public Library system in the USA in terms of "things" (books, dvd's, cd's etc) circulated. Previously we were second, behind Brooklyn Public Library. We are technically "County" and we are union. All I can really account for is the department I am in. ITS Operations. For 1.3 million patrons and 20 million (or so) items we have: One (1) Systems Administrator. No interns, substitutes, nor assistants. We have one (1) Network Administrator. No interns, substitutes, nor assistants. We also provide the public with about 4 million hours of internet use on library owned computers per year. We have one (1) Database Administrator (me). Again, no subs, no assistants, no interns. We have one (1) Telecommunications Specialist for about 50 locations. We all work with no backup, no help and no one else who really knows our job well enough to do it. As a team we do help each other when needed, as this would be totally impossible to do without each other. So forgive me if I don't answer the freakin' phone when you call - I might be helping someone else right at that very moment. Leave a message and I'll try to get back to you. Oh, and my personal workstation here just in case anyone wants to know has 26 cores and 52 Gigs of ram. And three very pretty monitors.

Well guys, It sounds like this is going to be a non-issue thank god, It doesnt appear that we have any of our crowd involved with as a member or have ann association of an organised labor groups... so far only 3 that im aware and even if there where several more amongest us... Im sure we would all cross over with out a thought or a concern Thanks guys it should be a great time... thread closed, my consern put to rest.
Prop
Prop, I'm a teacher and a union member and I plan on going.
TS Dougherty
Prop, I'm union and not pleased about it. All my union seems to do is to defend lazy no good bums who if they worked for the private/no union sector would have deservedly been fired years ago! It doesn't matter if I sit on my butt or bust it, I make the same as the lazy ones and that burns my behind. Sure, I feel unions had their place in the sun in the 20-30's but now we have labour laws to protect workers and yes, I agree, they were earned by union people, no denying that. But now it seems unions are not as necessary as they were years ago. So, I'll close my rant with a civil service/lesbian joke just for you Prop... Q: What do you get if you have 100 civil servants and 100 lesbians in a room together? A: 200 people who don't do dick! :-)
Clive Reddin
Prop, My wife is a public school teacher of 24 years and I do take great offfence to what our governor has done. he has managed to divide the state and vilify the teaching profession. I could go on fro quite a while about what the whole collective bargainingn thing means, but as you started this thread... Not trying to turn it into a political discussion. However, if you would like to see what our governor is really like, google the Scott Walker prank call. It runs about 20 min. and is quite revealing.. BTW, I do plan on being at RA for the 50th.
Tim Michnay
It is not pretty no matter how you look at it. The arguments from both sides had so many outright lies and deceit. The sad truth is that our past governor really did a job on this state and now it needs to be fixed. Ain't gonna be fun for anybody. But the private sector working folks are being stuck big time no matter how it goes. I didn't see anybody crying as the manufacturing, my field, was pushed out of the country. And today it was announced that the trade imbalance increased again. And that all cuts into the money available to pay all workers. I received my education and now it is somebody else's turn. Some simple economics that could have been taught in school. One thing I do know, we are in this together and we better figure it out. It is sink or swim for us now.
tomshobby
but the good news is there are not enough of us that are heavily involved with unions that should a serious strike ensue... Its not going to effect many of us from attending midget 50 and that the root/core of this thread Prop
Prop
You are right Prop, I was out of line. BTW, Prop, if you want a nice scenic drive through Wisconsin I can help you with a great route.
tomshobby
Cool tom, Im sure the others with my self will be looking forward to tomshobby special friends cruise
Prop
| Prop, what I said was that if you want a scenic drive through Wisconsin to Elkhart Lake that I would be glad to give some route ideas. There are many beautiful areas of the state and I am sure most don't want to take the interstate. I even have some route choices from the southwest corner of the state that are great. Along the Wisconsin River for exmple.

Tim Michnay
| If anyone wants that kind of drive through Wisconsin on their way to or from the 50th let me know. tom at smithtr6 dot com. or this
|
tomshobby
I was trying to make it clear that I would not be leading the drives. Then while trying to make that clear I made another error that I just noticed while looking back at the posts I had made. That error is that I said "you" sounding like the offer only applied to Prop. I was thinking "you" plural meaning everyone. So I will try to make things clear. I offer anyone scenic route information in or through Wisconsin. This includes those going to of from the 50th. Unless you (all of you) prefer the interstate.
tomshobby
I know one thing... Im looking forward to tom putting togather this really great tour... it will take alot of toms time so we should all plan to follow tom thur the country side of wisconsin. Your the man tom, thanks for volenteering to put this togather for all of use to enjoy BTW ... will these be daily drives your organising for us I like that ferry boat idea your working on, that should be alot of fun. keep up the great work Prop
Prop
Prop, let me try one more time. These will be self guided tours. Routes for anyone that might want a more interesting way to travel through Wisconsin to the 50th. The laws time and space don't allow me to be in all those places at one time. The thing is that Shirley and I have traveled through most of the state and can suggest much more interesting ways to travel than the main roads and boring interstate system. So let me know where you plan to enter Wisconsin and the destination if other than the 50th. I can then give some ideas of nicer ways to travel. Prop, e-mail me at tom at smithtr6 dot com.
