MG Midget and Sprite General - Is everyone safe?

How's everyone coping in the windyness? Not too bad here in York, I'm aware we have a couple of members up in the eye of the storm area.

Saw a picture of a block of garages with the roof ripped off it with what looked like a spitfire inside :(

Stay safe

Thats sad

Good luck to all that are effected

Breezy here in the Midlands, but we're ok, thanks for asking though

Our christmas lights fell down in Aberdeen! (The ones on the high street that is, not my personal ones, Aberdeen appeared to be the focus of the 6 o clock news last night).

And the wall of the garage where I recently had my head skimmed fell over! ha ha, thought that place looked a bit dodgey!

Just a bit of a stiff breeze! :-)

People in central belt I think got it a lot worse.

It's been blowing here for weeks, until a week or so ago. Sounds like it has left us and visted you!
Paul Walbran

I live in the Scottish central belt, as it is called, and luckily it seems damage was limited but many schools were closed before the winds hit and some businesses too which helped prevent possible injuries.

I think a big problem was due to the main road bridges here, across the Forth and Clyde rivers, being closed which effectively trapped people who had managed to get to work and prevented them from getting home again without a huge detour on unsuitable roads.

Hence massive tailbacks.

I believe there was one jam that stretched from Edinburgh to Kincardine which must be about 25-30miles.
JB Anderson

Totally predictable that the more exposed bridges would be closed. You wonder why people imagined that they would be able to drive across the Forth bridge since they regularly close it to high sided vehicles in quite benign conditions. There was plenty of warning!
Guy

The problem is Guy that lots of people who work in Edinburgh can't afford to live there so make their home over the water in Fife. For them the bridge is the only sensible way to get to and from work. So they set off for work on Thursday morning while the worst of the storm was till approaching western Scotland, but by the time they came to go home the gale had arrived and the bridge was closed. What can you do?
Mike Howlett

Mike,
My daughter lives "over the river" and commutes into Edinburgh. When traffic is likely to be bad she leaves her car at N Queensferry for free and takes the train. At £3.20 its a lot cheaper too! She didn't have to on this occasion as she is off work, but there was plenty of warning and/or bridge closure was highly predictable. No sympathy here I am afraid!

And there will soon be 2 high suspension bridges to close when its windy!
Guy

Guy.
I'm pretty sure this is the first time they've closed the bridge to all traffic since I moved here 14 years ago.

I flew up to Edinburgh on Wednesday am from Cardiff. It was a beautiful sunny day in the city. I drove to my meeting which was north of the river over the Kincardine Bridge. Thankfully I managed to cross the Kincardine Bridge heading back to the M9 at lunchtime yesterday. I thought they were going to close it as the Forth Bridge was already closed. Having arrived at the airport I managed to get an earlier flight, taking off at around 3pm. An interesting take off in that wind and a tad rough for the first 2-3000 feet! An hour later I was in Cardiff. The wonders of modern transport.

Looks like we're in for some more later this week.
