MG Midget and Sprite General - Insurance quotes (NMC)
I have been trawling the insurance comparison sites as I took voluntary redundancy at the end of January and lost the company car and will be looking to replace it once I get another job. I have been looking at the Volvo S60 and was shocked at some of the quotes: 35, 2 years NCD (on company car) Volvo S60 2.4d, car value approx £9000 I was expecting quotes of around £1000 (which the chearest quotes came in around that) Venturing further down the page the bottom one on the list quoted me £45,000 with a £3000 excess Yep you read that correctly a total of £48,000 insurance for a £9000 car! I can see that some companies will be more expensive than others, but how can they justify a mark up of that magnitude, and more to the point how are they still in business!!!! Needless to say I wont be keeping their phone number. Just wanted to express my disbelief on this as its been over 10 years since I had to personally insure an everyday car. Thanks Mark

I went through the process of getting quotes for my Midget recently and the cheapest ones started at £85 ish and the worst was about £9500, if I remember correctly. I presume the expensive quote companies are "not into" that type of car and don't really want the business wanting to concentrate on different types of car/user instead, which is their niche. Perhaps. If people are mad enough to accept their quote then they (the company) are laughing all the way to the bank.

Try Chris Knott Insurance http://www.ckinsurance.co.uk/car_insurance.html They do a lot with car clubs and also internet forums - fora? I found them through the VW Audi forum and they did me a very good deal on my Passat.
