MG Midget and Sprite General - I don't like Midgets anymore .....
| Yup - it's true - after my play in the MGB V8 mega-roadster (which would blast pretty much every Midget out of the road), I've now been seen Autotesting another slightly modified MG .......... At least this one doesn't have a 50th Anniversary coming up either ;)!!!!!!!!!!
|
rachmacb
Please Racheal say it isn't so! I have an MGA project now, but I still love my Midget. I also was attracted to the dark side by big power, even the MGA needs a bit of a boost, so my Midget got a 2.8 V6 and the MGA is getting treated to a 4.0 I6 both with 5 speed transmissions. There's still plenty of room in the Midget for some more power such as the K engine or one of the other late model V6 units available to you on your side of the pond. Most of the SUVs come with suitable RWD engine/transmission setups that would work.
B Young
LOL - sure - I've been totally corrupted by the dark side, and have a really nice B roadster and 3.9V8 engine sat on my property waiting for a transformation - and, the Midget has also alot of engine work left to do, at the end of which, it should be more than competitive with the k-series and maintain more than a little originality. The MGA in the picture is also a tad modified - it's got an over-bored MGB engine in, with a Peter Burgess head in, and runs like a total dream - on the open road. The owner autotests it really well, but, I found it soooo hard after the Midget ..... Naw - it's ok really - I've still got my love of the first car I ever wanted ;) Even if I do get sick of some of the other side-effects :)
rachmacb
"at the end of which, it should be more than competitive with the k-series" Dream on baby ;) "maintain more than a little originality." Blimey Rach, your starting to sound like some of these fosile-mgcc members... GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!
Arie de Best
Arie - I can beat your a**e with a horse - so - it's you that needs to get real ;)!!!!!!! I seem to remember that it was you who proclaimed my car wouldn't be fit for a Concours competition ... :) I, on the other hand, am way more optimistic, and fully intend on entering it into one at Midget50 - after all - I KNOW how many people are entered, and, one can only come last - and the prizes are GREAT ............ haha - even you've probably got enough tweed for it :)
rachmacb
"Arie - I can beat your a**e with a horse" Thats because a horse has a bigger *rse, a bit unfair isnt it? LOL Oh no, dont tell the prize is a hrglghh, I cant even type it with out getting ill, : picknickbasket!!! LOL!!! "after all - I KNOW how many people are entered" Let me guess: only one and her name starts with a R? :)
Arie de Best
That looks like East Kirkby Rach! Nothing looks as impressive as a big saloon like a Maestro Turbo blasting around the pan ;) Are you planning a Nitro kit for the 1500 or something to keep with a K!?! Steve
Steve H K-ser
Arie you need to get your rear end sorted before you can make claims of being competitive hon! ;)
Deborah Evans
Arie - that's a fantastic idea - would you like to sponsor it :)!!!!! Yup Steve - was at the Autotest yesterday - which I totally mucked up (again!), but, at this rate, you'd better not be too rude about the Maestro as you're too busy to do your car with the baby ;)! I still love that picture you took of your dad and the cone - classic!!! Saw the pics, he's gorgeous by the way :) You'll have to wait and see ............:)
rachmacb
I'm going even darker..... I've just got my little sister to buy an MGF! That way I can claim that I don't own one ;)
Onno Könemann
LOL - I would say that that's unfair, but then, the MGA isn't exactly mine (although ........ if the owner ever wants it back again ;)!!!!!)
rachmacb
And here is our very own Steve with new bambino scroll down the page to Horse and jockey I am sure everyone would like to congratulate him on such a great job. Hmmm did another person have some input :) http://www.mgcclincolnshire.co.uk/
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo
This thread went to the backside in a hurry...should be retitled "a horses ass" hahaha... opp sorry... i farted.
Prop
Rach- All of my five MGs are modified for more performance, and my Midget may be the slowest of the bunch, but I love it dearly. There's just something about a Spridget that makes it a hoot to drive.......
Stephen Strange
Dammit, I miss the Midget. But now I have a petrolhead mate with a barn that wifey don't know about... The F is OK, but it ain't the drive.
Ddraig G
Gotta love those hidden barns (one of mine is hidden from my parents!) For the record - I had better put this straight - I still love my midget and will never get rid of her!! She is having some welding done, hence my appearance in a selection of Bs in various stages of development and the MGA whom I blame for jinxing every other car around! I love them all for very different reasons but the Midget is my first and main joy!!!!
rachmacb
"Arie you need to get your rear end sorted before you can make claims of being competitive hon! ;) " LOL!! Briliant one Deb!
Arie de Best
Ok, I've read this kinda fast, but I don't understand. A v8 MGB faster than a stock Midget? Duh? I just bought a Miata. It's a great car, but I still like the Midget for different reasons.
don g
Don read it again
Onno Könemann
Sometimes I think that's the real problem of the written word! We are all probably guilty of it, I know I am and I know that I don't always write with that in mind. I do have to say that the MGA and BV8(conversion) are both engineered to the highest possible levels! This has probably spoiled me a little as now I will expect it in all of them! There is also a rather nice Midget in the same stable ..... And I've driven that as well - getting my first ever fastest test in the Anglia Autotest last year .....!
rachmacb
Rach, Our Midget has been sitting all spring as well. We had two long car club weekends planned, and drove the B/GT for both. One more coming up the end of May, and would guess weather will play the biggest part in that. Just the way it's worked so far, the Midget has stayed local. Regards, Larry C.
Larry C '69 Midget
LOL Larry - I kinda suspect that that's probably half the problem - the spring here has been unusually hot and sunny and dry, and the BGT just doesn't cut it in those weathers!!!! It's currently in pieces though - hence the loan of the MGA - now the problem is that I really, really love her and I've told the owner that it will be easier for him to extract my still-beating heart from my chest than get the keys out of my grubby little hands ... :) Sadly, he is now googling how to do this!!!! I MIGHT be persuaded by getting to borrow the V8 for Midget50 though ;) At the very least, it will cut my driving time by at least a quarter :)
rachmacb
"getting to borrow the V8 for Midget50 though ;)" You do realize you cant park with all the cool spridgetkids but have to park it between the Nissan Micra's and citroens at the "outcast parkingarea" outside Burghley house... committee-member or not. LOL!!!
Arie de Best
That's ok coz I will leave you all standing in my exhaust fumes anyway!
rachmacb
Yes I heard the engine was burning a bit of oil....you're better she parks away from you then Arie, don't want to put oily exhaust marks on your cars.
Max max-at-midgetmax-dot-com
Max, dont worrie, I never come near a parking woman as we all know for most women parking just isnt their thing, especialy not for the Lincs feminists. ;) Btw Rach, these exhaust fumes of your B are they mushroom shaped? :)
Arie de Best
Rach, Showing my age again, but I prefer the B/GT in the hot weather, she's Glacier White and stay's pretty cool when moving. Also, perhaps a spoonful of Castrol R in the tank of the V-8 might make things a bit more pleasant for the lads trying to keep up! Regards, Larry C.
Larry C '69 Midget
LOL Arie - you really should be careful - it's just about a month away now - and the feminists have long memories ;) Ah Larry - mine is teal blue - and feels a bit hot - although, it is nice not to have "Midget hair" and take hours to comb out all the tangles - but, since it will probably be raining at Midget50, I might yet reserve the right to go in the BGT. LOL and why would I want to let them keep up - never known anything but bad come from being caught :)!!!!!!!!!!!
rachmacb
Hi Rach pleased you are on what happens if you want to enter in anything but a Spridget? Could you park inside Burghley and say enter the rockerbox racing? I could park my MGA next to yours or are we going in MGBs? :)
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo
Bob - I'm sure that it is MANY MONTHS AGO that I answered your questions about what about other cars - and pointed out that Bill has gone to loads and loads of trouble to arrange parking for other cars (and towing vehicles for all the broken down old things), and this will be divided into two areas - one for other classics, and one for other cars. All you do is buy a ticket for Midget50 and you will be waved into the other car parking area - so do phone Julie soon, as ticket sales are going crazy! HOWEVER, I think that I will have the MGA removed from my grubby little hands soon (booohooo sulk moan whinge cry booooohoooooo!) and I am now working on the line "if you bribe me with letting me drive the V8 again, then you MIGHT get your car back ......", since my own V8 is but a car and an engine at the moment, and behind a long list of other jobs to be finished first ...., so, guess you'll have to park your A next to my B - however, WHY isn't your midget done yet???????????? It's been ages - and even Props is working now!
rachmacb
What do you mean done yet? It has been done for 25 years LOL
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo
And yet - it is not going to be at Midget50 .......??? Props is going to make it all the way to Wisconsin :) (Touch wood!)
rachmacb
| This is it just yesterday Its my rockerbox racer I am having trouble with, I am struggling to get the wheels in within the 6 inch width :( but still trying. Wonder if others are having problems?
|
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo
LOL - that's just a car sat on a driveway - not going anywhere ......!!!!! As for rocker boxes - I thought you said that you were going to be running those skinny wheels ....????? Anyway - this is too late for me
rachmacb
The Midget rocker box is 100mm wide and the regs call for about 150mm max that leaves me 50mm for a wrap around bumper and 2 wheels, Not easy
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo
I'm quite taken with your car Bob any other shots from various angles please (the white one not the race car)
Nigel Atkins
Here is the otherside
|
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo
| And here is where the action is. Not leaking oil at the moment I am pleased to say!!!! Thats my bike creeping in shot
|
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo
thanks . . . now the dash looks interesting . . .
Nigel Atkins
| Forget about the dash, im intrested in the wirewheelspanners on the bold-on minilites. Bob(R)did you made your own spanner addaptors? Have thought about that idea for a while after seing this frog on Zandvoort track.
|
Arie de Best
Sorry Rob I was typing as you posted that engine bay photo, looks like it could cause leaks :) still interested in dash
Nigel Atkins
Arie they are genuine Minilite knock ons with normal 2 eared spinners. The dash is 6mm alloy plate machine turned by me! :)
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo
photo required plus what's best to use to clear out oil gunk from rubber hoses? not washing up liquid and water, petrol, what about terps, white spirt, WD40, ect.? and do you know if the the standard plastic service item vented oil filler cap fits the alloy rocker covers?
