MG Midget and Sprite General - how do it guides
Just a thought - is there a site where you can share how to do it type information ( other than the BBS type notes? which don't have an index etc - makes searching difficult) I am thinking along the lines of the excellent guides in the Landy site I use. It has some pictorial guides on common jobs cam belt changes etc etc ... and short cuts - how to get around use of special tools etc Or is the consensus that the midget is so simple we don't need such a resource? I haven't found anything like this so far - seen the University motors vid's and they are quite useful but not comprehensive.. Whats the view from the community ? Also likewise there isn't a projects sharing site is there ?

pro: might be worth a go cons: model and year variations plus associated work or checks required could make it more convoluted than it at first seems there are already lots of books giving details on many regular jobs including of course the owners/Driver’s Handbook (not a workshop manual) - http://www.mgocshop.co.uk/catalog/Online_Catalogue_Handbooks_5.html are you thinking of text or videos

At one time there was a group of the bbs that was devoloping a wiki site of this exact same info that was to be a sister to the bbs... But im not sure what ever became of it At the risk of getting my donky kicked really harsh...there was a former member that basically said screw copy rights and built a website that used everone elses website content w/o permission...im not suree of all the details as i stayed away from that conflict The site name is something like... mg guru.com Im sure you can google it Prop...im just the messanger, not the donky...haaha

I agree some of the info is in manuals etc - but sometimes haynes etc make it sound easy when it isn't .. anyway - take a look at this Landy site and see what you think http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=4731 not sure if you will be able to access it without joining .. lets see. So in answer Nigel - I was thinking pictorial - with text for explanation.. Also I think a project site would be goo to share pic's of each others work in progress.. like a story board.. I guess the question is - am I the only one who would find it useful / of interest? straw poll?

John, It's a great idea but the problem would be who would compile it...? This BBS is run totally for enthusiasts by enthusiasts (courtesy of Mike). However, your request may be available from here by asking specific questions... You may notice that amongst all the forums on this BBS, the Midget and Sprite (both General and Technical) are by far the busiest giving very fast responses to questions and conversation. Detailed pictures are also regularly seen. Welcome to the forum and I hope we see more of you along with your project.. :-) Mark.

I agree the forum is a very good one. I happen to also use the land rover one and found the project and how to do it sections useful. But you are correct it is a lot of work to set up and provide the input. I am very happy with the level of help I have got on the forum - please don't think it was a criticism - because it wasn't I will continue to enjoy what we already have - cheers !

I am in the process of constructing such a site. (Have been for 2 years. :) Not done too much to the site for a year but have been writing and photographing plenty of articles ready for up loading. I was hoping to find others wanting to add stuff but have been unsuccessful so far LOL Do you want to add.? This year I will find more ime to devote and get it moving. (He hopes.)

Dare I say it, the MG Experience Forums have the sort of thing you are describing.

John, I've never found the Haynes to be very good and I've got two from different years now for Spridgets very useful - you can get the reprint of facory Workshop Manual - http://www.mgocshop.co.uk/catalog/Workshop_Manuals.html and reprint of factory Parts Catalogue - http://www.mgocshop.co.uk/catalog/Online_Catalogue_Parts_Lists_3.html and of course the reprint of factory owner's/Driver's Handbook - http://www.mgocshop.co.uk/catalog/Online_Catalogue_Handbooks_5.html or all three on a DVD - http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-HMCC3009DVD?utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=feed again I think the model, production and owners variations to the vehilce would make any general info a bit awkward but I assume notes or alterations could be added - wether they'd be noticed is a different matter you might like this site too (mainly B based) - http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk/hometext.htm

Thanks for the comments. I recognise not everyone has time to do this - me included truth be told. But I have found although there is much good advise - sometimes the earch for older topics is quite long winded - a sort of index /link list would be useful to help find answers and avoid asking repeat questions. I linked by favourites to the ones you have helpfully submitted.. Thanks for that. I woul dbe interested in supporting a site with project notes/info and maybe some how to stuff gien some time.. Let me know if you find the wiki..?
