MG Midget and Sprite General - HELP !!! ...I got ''Bees'' in My car !
| Gez, I think Ive got the beginnings of a nest of Honey bees in my car... I cant find the nest thet started pestering me yeasterday.. just one, 2, maybe 4 in all... I shot em down with some brake cleaner. end of that I thought! Now today there are about 15-20 and will not leave the car alone, Plus now there real aggresive towards me, even tho Ive been trying to avoid swating at them. once I kill off a few and shew the others away with in 5 minutes and me working under the dash... there back swarming agian. I havent been stung yet, and Ive not killed any directly with my hands or smacker devices... just with the spray brake cleaner away from the car, so there are NO pharamon scents to connect me to the car and the ones I have killed where away from the car covered in brake cleaner, so Im guessing there not leaving a scent mark for the others to follow...Hopefully. I certianly dont want to create a massicure at the car or the shop its self, and have them leave a scent trail for the others to follow and create an even bigger mess I got the old consel out, and lots of exposed wires so driving it away isnt a real good option ither for fear of wires grounding out or making conntact with each other during the start up and drive away You guys got any ideas...any help would be a big apperication I HATE with a passion anything that flys plus stings... kill 'em all Is my motto. | call a pest control company. they'll do the job right. |
Trevor Jessie
Hmmm, That is a great idea, but Im hoping there is an idea that doest involve spending money or vary little of it... theres more Bees then I got dimes at the moment. I was just thinking maybe some kind of half full small plastic soda bottle with a flappy door cut into the side, that way they could get in the bottle okay but have hard time getting back out ... just stick it 20 feet or so away from the shop door....would something like that work
Prop
Prop, it's that "sweet" little console you built that's attracting them. ;-) Since you have the car in a confined space I'd just buy one of the aerosol can type bug bombs and set it off in the shop and close the door until tomorrow. That should be the end of the issue.
B Young
Prop, start the engine - they'll be so shocked they'll fly a mile away never to return.
David Smith
Wow as excuses not to drive go - that's got to be one of the best!!!
rachmacb
Bill. Thats a great Idea... I like that plan! Im going for it! I might as well get bombs for spiders and other little creatures and just be done with all of it at one time esp that the renters in the apartment moved out and no one is around or living there.... ill just Nazi SS Gas the crap out of the shop and surrounding area. Thanks guys Prop... heck with nea-palm, I love the smell of DEET in the morning.

"I HATE with a passion anything that flys" Prop I take it your not getting on a plane to Midget 50 then !!

Prop, Check the jack holes in the sills. Betcha they are in there. David "don't ask..." Lieb

I got jack hole caps... but I certianlly will give that a look... Before I set the bombs off I watched the bees for a long while, it seems they are really focased on the drivers door, I got the window down and no fuzzy seal inplace... so im thinking the nest/queen bee is in the door...I set off 2 bombs in the shop and 2 bombs in a dead tree about 50 yards away with a big open core... im thinking there might be a part of the same hive there also as it seems some of the bees where in the tree flying in and out.

Prop Bees don't like smoke. If you let some smoke out of your wiring harness, they're sure to leave the area!
Dave O'Neill 2
They're probably MG Bees. ;-) -:G:-

Prop... you mustn't kill them...! They are just doing what nature intended. You like Honey don't you..? Call in a local Bee Keeper and he / she should gather up the swarm and take them away. There should be NO charge. Good luck, Mark.

Mark, You are tilting against windmills and the American way. The unofficial US Marine motto: Kill them all and let god sort it out mentality. We don't recognize the natural course of events because we are an exceptional people, uneffected by any natural laws or events. We are Americans after all. Of course bees are one of the wonders of nature. They fly when man says the can't, they give us honey, and they pollinate our flowers and foodcrops. But we are better than them, we are free men with a free will and god on our side. Phil "Rant over"

Prop, Do not kill the bees! Think of the bad Karma that would generate from all of those lives lost. It will haunt you and your car forever. You will never get it running right if you kill the bees. You will have problems with broken crankshafts, bearing lubrication, piston clearance, compression. Your petrol will go bad, oil will spurt from every orifice, wiring your gauges will become a nightmare and you will never be able to work out how to safely operate an ammeter in your car. And that is just my prediction for the beginning of your bad luck for the future. Bees are small, but many bees together can have a huge influence on your life! And anyway, perhaps they can make better use of your car than you can.

You really shouldn't be killing bees in the states anyway. For the past four years there's already been an annual reduction in hives of over a third due to what's been dubbed 'Colony collapse disorder'. there's a real fear that crops in the states will really start to suffer due to there being no bees left to pollinate them. perhaps Prop should just drive his car to the fields and leave them to do their work for a while instead of killing off the bees.

Prop, Don't kill them. As Mark said, call your local bee keeper or better still get yourself a hive and keep them yourself in your garden or on a flat roof or send them over to me and I will keep them for you! Bees are dying all over the world and we need every one to continue to pollonate our crops.

Prop, Do you have honey bee's, or yellow jackets? http://www.honeybeeremoval.com/yellowjackets.honeybees.htm L.C.
Larry C '69 Midget
Gentlemen, from Prop's earlier post I think it's way too late to save those bees. I must take responsibility for suggesting to him to kill them instead of calling for a bee keeper, but considering that they were most likley in his car in some inaccessable place I thought it was wise to stop the infestation as soon as possible. I've seen the mess that a swarm of bees can leave behind if allowed to go on even a few days. I doubt if any of you would want to try to clean out a honey comb from a hidden nook of your car, what a nightmare that would be, and unless you get it all cleaned out the odor would only attract other insects and critters for a long time to come. If the bees were swarming in the ceiling of the building or such then my suggestion would have been much different as the car could have simply been moved out of the area, but in the car is another thing.

Bill, There may have been no other alternative. My argument is with his/your initial response. KILL 'EM ALL When dealing with nature we haven't learned the simple lesson that everything is connected. Rather than play super species we should at least explore other options before taking the nuclear approach. If the honycomb is there, it must still be dealt with The trajedy is that the bees are dead and not relocated to somewhere they could be useful and productive

As long as they are not wasps ! Last autumn was clearing up the garden and was attacked by a nasty bunch - living in the soil - covered all over, 20+ stings - so look out - very frightening - still gives me the creaps thinking about it ! professionally killed - reckoned there were thousands in the nest. Bees good - wasps exterminate - I do have a Darlek on loan ! R.

Im pretty sure doing CPR on bees wont resurrect them from a chemical poisening. sorry, But I did fulfill my "Alpha food chain responsiability" on them yesterday with a chem bomb. Ill be finding out how effective I was shortly. normally I would leave them alone and let nature be nature, but they had grown in numbers from the day before on wed. there was around 4, but yesterday I had about 20 and they where starting to get aggressive everythime I got close to the car I hadnt thouht of a bee keeper, but there was only about 20 of them yesterday, so Im not sure a bee keeper would have come for so few in number prop ...the bee predator

On the other hand, some pretty sophisticated cars have used honeycomb reinforced panels. And besides, if honey works like Waxoyl, Prop may be in luck. Seriously, I very much dislike killing bees. But if they've nested deep in a sill, for example, I'm not sure there's much else you could do other than make sure all openings are plugged and wait until the problem goes away by itself. -:G:-

Prop, If you look at the link I posted earlier they have a side-by-side photo of a honey bee (good) and a yellow jacket(bad) which are a type of wasp, and very aggressive. Like Richard, I had a similar experience getting stung, and bitten (they also bite) many times after driving my lawn mower over their nest which was buried in the ground. I used a canister bomb (after dark) when they were all in the nest, and that did it. No problems since. Larry C.

Honey won't work like waxoyl, but the Propolis might... :p
Richard Reeves
thanks larry there honey bees according to the photo link... Im guessing there all dead... but then we did just have a thunder storm roll thur dropping hail. so they might have gone into hiding before the storm arived ... but I think there gone,,, I was working all over the car and never saw a Bee an hour before the storm arrived. Prop...Fried bees for super tonight, NOT !!!
