dohh sorry its a 1978 1500. or wouldnt mind a mint condition mohair or vinyl hood eather
james gibson

I'm not a fan of hardtops - what do you do with them if the journey back is top down weather?

IMO mohair are more for show as they take more looking after - a vinyl top you can drop for a day, part day, journey, return journey or part journey

many great top down driving days in spring, autumn and winter more so often than summer

how long have you had your car for James?
N Atkins

iv had it for about 2 months

What type of hardtop do you have for a MK1 Midget. If it is a works type I would be interested.

James,
yes I thought you might be new to this

do you want me to post 'my usual advice to new owners' if you've not already seen it?
N Atkins

Hard tops are great, although I agree, can be a bit of a drag on a good winter day, such as sun and snow. But it's not that much of a task to take it off.

I have the original job, double skinned, with glass windows. Got it for 120 quid a looooong time ago.

I reckon they are WELL worth the money and transform the car.

I store mine hanging from the ceiling of my garage. Couple of pullies to get it up there.

If I didn't have one, I reckon I'd pay 200 quid for one.

Here you go, check this out. Ad is a bit old, but you never know he might still have it, and its cheeeeeeep too. Same as the one I have, but mines a white exterior

Now sold - sorry!
David Smith

I didn't read it that closely obviously.

Still I doubt that James will slash his wrists because it's sold will he?

Will he?

OMG, I never thought of that :P

Lawrence you put
>>But it's not that much of a task to take it off.<<

earlier I put
>>what do you do with them if the journey back is top down weather?<<

some like hardtop but I don’t that why I like soft tops that can be dropped or raised as and when you want

personally I don’t see the additional need for security or comfort but I don’t live or visit very rough areas (I used to, both) or live in a very cold area

I just think most when they fit their hardtops seem stuck with them for the season, not only do you have to remove it you have to store and protect it, just seen a friend who’s stored one for 7 years through one house move, had the garage joists altered to store it but has never put it on the car and it would now probably be out of shaper and seals aged
N Atkins

No really Nigel, they are easy to fir and remove.

well if the retrun journey is top down weather, your just out of luck I guess, but that doesn't detract from their advantages, one of which on NOT security btw, since a child can get into a midget the locks are so poor.

Mine is at least 30 years old with original rubber seals and, as for out of shape, nah, they are tough fibre glass, not plastic.

Your only stuck with them for the season if you are lazy. I see plenty of people driving with the soft top up in sunny weather too.

Modern cars have auto tops, but still you see people on sunny days with the top up. Mine is down as long as it isn't raining, but come October, I put the Htop on. then on a sunny day, i take it off and leave in in the garden. no hassle at all.

I think it's just a matter of personal taste in the end, you either like em or not.

Me I think tonneau covers are a waste of space, others sware by them. Horses for courses I suppose.

Hi Robert, the top is the standard BMC one as shown in Horler(is that a works one?) I'm going to get it down out of the roof of the garage get some photos with a view to selling it soon as I've just bought a reverse rake side windscreen one :-)

Ali
Ali- Midget Mk1 1098

Hi Ali,

If it is the same as the black one on page 68 of Horler and has all the fittings/mountings then I am definitely interested. The one on p68 would appear to use the standard sidescreens -does yours?

Apologies for highjacking this thread.

Kind regards

Robert

I've got a good sound hardtop in black gathering dust in my garage if anyone is interested... A few scratches and scuffs but would polish up ok I guess. The glass in it is fine. For a late Midget 67-78.
Bob T

Could u email me a price location and some pics to geeebo@hotmail.co.uk
james gibson

Robert. That's the one. Yes. It uses normal sidescreens. I'm going to get it down from the roof tomorrow night and I'll post some pictures for you.
