MG Midget and Sprite General - Got My Car Back!!!!
I finally got my beloved Midget back today!!!! After 2 years and 3 months for a 6-8 week job. Rebuilt engine, rebuilt front steering/suspension so now all I really need to do is give it a complete once over for small things the shop might possibly have overlooked in re-assembly, check fluid levels, tire pressures, wheel nut torques and all lights. Hope I don't inherit a ton of problems after being off the road for so long. I wonder what happened to my cylinder head oil feed line? Have to see about that as well as the emissions stuff that was removed. Have to get that stuff back for the next owner in case someone wants to add it back on again. Also I've ended up with a points system instead of electronic ignition as they claimed it was acting up. Nothing wrong with a points system as long as one has spare condensers in the box. (LOL)

What happened Clive? I didn't know you had been Midgetless. I just read a post by Jeff (advanced distributors) about how some solid core wire can mess up certain electronic ignition modules.

Great news Clive. Lots of summer driving left. Maybe we'll see you down this way or at Bronte Creek. Tim

Well, at first I had problems with the clutch slave leaking. Of course it's a bear to bleed that system on a 1500. Before I got it to my standards where I could shift gears without any grinding I read a couple of posts on here from 2 folks who had suddenly lost their engines about the same mileage I had on mine. I spoke with a well respected fellow from the car club and he has many years experience with repairing MGs about my engine. He agreed that it had more than likely would be in need of some engine work as the 1500s really weren't the best available and did need TLC as the mileage got up there. So we agreed to do the engine and clutch and while it was in, to do the king pins. These had some wear in them and it was just a matter of time before they'd have to be done anyway so why not now? He couldn't take the car as he had some jobs on the go already but we did get it in a month later. He figured a 6-8 week job at the maximum but that soon went by the by. Trouble is he's basically a one man shop and there's a demand for his skills so sometimes things get put to one side or progress slowly. Guess that's the case here. Anyway, the engine sounds great, quiet as a mouse compared to mine before the rebuild. The engine did need a rebuild though as it was quite worn. Guess it was the right time. So, I hope it was worth it and we'll see soon enough. At least I'll never have to do that again as long as I own the car!

Wow that's one very long wait - and I'm cursing a few month over-run which was partly my fault anyway! Glad you've got it back and running sweetly though - enjoy the rest of summer
