MG Midget and Sprite General - FS: Oselli 1275cc A-series Engine

For sale is my 73 midget engine and gearbox as i am moving over to K-series power, it was rebuilt approximatly 5 years ago when the full refurbishment was done on the car and it was gone through with all new parts will try and get some more info on it. wondering what sort of money i can get for it. it is still in the car and running atm!.
Thanks
Jords

Hmmmmm, obviously you have more money than me, so, I would suggest that you were to flog it to me, so that I can then sell the head from "lil Blue" to Mark - £150 do?!

Seriously, obviously more information is needed, but, I would be looking at somewhere between £600-1000, possibly more, but then, if you stick on ebay - possibly less too! The old rule of thumbs is usually "something is only worth what someone else is prepared to pay for it"!

If the gearbox is good, really good, then I would consider a split. I think you'll get more.
Lawrence Slater

haha, i have no money just scraping together, need to sell a few cars first.

That seems pretty good would like £1000 for it, and i would split the gearbox. :)
JP Curnow

You realy need to know more about the engine before you can expect any more than 400 for a good box and engine.
Even then it always is tricky.
If it is in the car it is a benefit because you can testdrive

5 years is a long time, could have done 60k miles or more in that time and be almost ready for another rebuild.
David Smith

Yes dave, but considering that its got full service history from new and 50k on the clock thats impossible, anyway i can trace the history of the car in the last 5 years and its done less than 3000 miles been stored in a heated garage at mine and started every week.
JP Curnow

"Started every week" is not a good thing. Condensation in the engine, oil not warm, lubrication is very poor at start up. etc. etc.

...but you didn't say any of that in your 1st post !!!
My comment (and all others) can only be based on the information available at the time...
David Smith

If it's been stored in a heated (dry) garage, I can't see condensation being much of an issue. And as long as it was run enough to reach full temp I reckon it would be fine. Rather that than not turned over for x number of years.
Lawrence Slater

I'll search that article on the damage of letting a car idle for extended periods of time....
Does havoc to the cam/folowers and gudion pins due to high loads and minimal lubrication
Onno Könemann

Is it just me, or is this board getting very negative. It is like everyone is saying "you don't want to do that"!
Shawn

Lawrence, yes it has been stored in a heated dry garage its been converted into an office then i've nicked it and used it as a garage so its even carpeted! this is not a sh*tter of a car that you lot are making out. it is a concourse car and you won't get a minter car simple. I think i will do some videos of it running and driving before i take it out should that be sufficient for a potential buyer?
JP Curnow

Lol yup - and I still stand by my comment - especially on the basis of some rubbish that people were selling for a fortune at the weekend!

Videos always help and I'd keep the gearbox and engine together unless you really can't sell that way.

There's an idea. I'm gonna heat my garage, and put carpet down too.

When you think that these cars were built in, and survived the 60's, I reckon they can survive the average unheated garage too. lol.

When I got banned from driving, (one time in a few), I parked my sprite outside a cottage in lower higham kent for a year, with only frost for protection. It survived.

I still have my sprite, the girlfriend is now married to a french lawyer. lol.
