MG Midget and Sprite General - Front Shock absorbers Query

I have a 1974 Midge in good order after rebuild a couple of years ago. I rebuilt the front suspension but cannot remember the beast being so harsh at the front and I suspect the front shocks. Is there an easy way of testing this out other than the bounce test ?

I seem to get mid corner sideways bouncing when I hit bumps, again cannot seem to remember it being that bad before, having had the car for 29 years.

Any ideas ?

Cheers

Phil,

Disconnect the shock from the front upright (taking all usual precautions) and move the lever up and down. It should feel 'damped' all the way in both ways.
Check also for leaking shocks. If they are leaking, get them overhauled or exchanged. Peter May does the best shocks in my experience.
easy to do and easy to swap.
However, you may find they just need a top up. So whilst you have the suspension disconnected, take the small bung out of the top and top up with either a suitable shock oil (Penrite do one) or even a light engine oil.

Good luck.
