MG Midget and Sprite General - Freight from USA

Hi Guys
I need to freight a roll cage (main hoop and back braces)from the US to Tasmania (or Melb. - Sydney) and am having trouble finding a carrier to do the job at a resonable price. Any ideas would be most helpfull thanks Willy
William Revit

Is that the usa common version of safty roll cage thats on ebay....

Id think for no bigger and havier then it is .... one of the big 3, Fedx, Ups, or USPS (US postal SERVICE)

IF I can be of any help... please let me know.

Perhaps a better idea is to make or buy one locally....there isnt much to these.... i could spec mine out for you

Thanks for the reply Prop
The cage is a full SCCA approved unit. It's not for a Midget, it's to be fitted to a Mazda MX5 The problem is the actual size of the thing. It tips the scales at 20kg which is not a problem. It can be shipped anywhere in the US for a flat rate $50 but to get it here it's over $500 because of the space it takes up. I've been talking to the manufacturer today about the possibility of building it as a hoop with the rear stays built but not welded to it so that it can be packaged a lot flatter and welded up here. Should reduce the freight cost quite a bit. I hope
Cheers Willy

2nd day of Winter here today - cool - no rain - yet

Willy,

Great idea about shipping this in a break-down package to save on freight. The manufacturer's concern will be with certification of the welds if this unit is to carry their SCCA certification, and yours may be proper alignment without a proper factory jig. Although, I guess it could be set inside the car, tacked in place, and then removed for final welds?

A few Moo Brew Hefeweizen's on hand for that work I hope?

Good luck,

Larry C.

I think that is a great idea..... i had a similar issue with a christmas gift for a niece ... i got a huge stuffed toy ape... stood like 6 foot tall, wieghed like 25 pounds but the size was the killer... it was going to cost like $200 to ship it... across the country.... it ended up at good will

Yeah
Thanks guys
Welding the bar up isn't a problem but the whole idea of this bar was/is to have a certified bar and although they are willing to send it in half form we have made the decision to just pay the big bucks and get it sent in one piece. At least doing it this way it can be powdercoated and get a sticker all ready to go
Getting it in pieces would have been ok but by the time you put it in tack it up ,pull it out again and weld it up then powdercoat and get it stickered(certified) it's lazy I know but just easier to pay the dollars and forget about it. It'll probably work out about the same cost all up--- Confirmed the order today--- I'm trying to forget about it already-- Willy

Larry
I'll knock the top off a Moo just for you.
Ok Prop one for you as well-
Thanks for your interest guys.

Unreal that you have Moo Brew over there all the way from our little island--
It's sold by Moorilla Estate Winery (thats the moo bit)
Moorilla Estate is a small winery on a piece of land poking out into the Derwent river in our capital city, Hobart. The guy that owns it sort of ran out of room for development and excavated a great chunk out of the cliff-face and built a museum/convention centre semi underground. A bit of an eye opener. He must be loaded, he sponsors the international tennis series here, he brings in expensive artworks and diplays them to the public for free, he has a free entry museum and sends Moo Brew over to you as well by the sound of it.
I'll see if I can find a pic of the estate and put it up here Willy
William Revit

Willy,

My wife and I have tasted Moorilla wine at our local bottle shop during a tasting, but have not seen Moo Brew here. Thought a Moo Brew might be appropriate when the roll cage arrived!
