MG Midget and Sprite General - For a friend...

I'm looking for a 3.9:1 or even a 3.7:1 dif assembly or even CW+P for a Spridget..

If anyone can help, I hope to have some room in a shared container leaving the UK late January. I would need to get the diff to York asap if I can find one..

Any offers..?

Cheers,
Mark.

Struggling for 3.9s at the moment.

I've just sold a 3.7 and had an enquiry from a guy in Brisbane about it. I gave him your number, I don't know if he got in touch?
Dave O'Neill2

had both recently - they do fly out the door fast though!
David Smith

Ha Dave, that'll be the guy I'm trying to help... :-) Thanks for the lead.

Dave and David, if anything comes up, let me know please..

Cheers,
Mark.

We have a spare 3.7 here, also a 3.9. The 3.7 is good. The 3.9 is a source of annoyance having been sold to me as a very good one for top money by a trader I thought was reliable but turned out to have scuff marks on the CW&P. It is about to be returned to Wales whence it came. Happy to sell either but would want a late housing in return.

However, freight would be far less economical than your container. I recently sent a 4.3 banjo B series diff in your direction freight was about $200 as I recall.

I Might be able to help here. I have 2 3.9s.

Both a bit whiny though. Both have seen service in my sprite and have done the miles. Hence are languishing in my loft as each in turn have been replaced with new ones. (I don't like refurbished). Both can be used if you dont mind the whine and a bit of lash.

I'll poke about and get them down if your interested.

What condition are you after? What're they worth?

Lawrance, you have a PM...

My apologies to Mark.

Having just discovered how much new, and even recon diffs are these days, I've decided the best course for me is to keep mine for spares/rebuild, for when my current one is unusable.

So I would imagine Mark is still needing a diff. Sorry Mark.

Out of interest what would a NOS 3.9 final drive unit be worth, still in it protective goop.
David Billington

David, these prices from Moss, might give you some idea of how much that's worth, and why I have decided to keep my used spares.

I've got one or another, haven't been underneath the car to see what it is yet. It's in a late 1500, should be 3.7 but you never know til you pull it out.

Max max-at-midgetmax-dot-com

I think Max's is a 3.9 (not that late a 1500, couldn't see VIN stamped in drivers footwell...)
David Smith

Could you let me know Max / David..?

Cheers,
Mark.

I've got a 3.9 unit which has been sat in my garage for a while - taken off a scrap car so condition unknown except that there is a load of end float in the pinion. I've not got the expertise to set it up and therefore its not really of any use to me, so I'm happy to sell if you are happy to do any refurbishment it might need

MarkDOTharrisATincusavDOTcom if it's of use to you

Interesting this bit in the ebay entry mentioned by Willaim

<<This is a coarse spline diff, nearly all cars are, but Major, Lancer and Wolseley series 2 1500 will require a change to fine-spline axle-carriers in this diff (from your old diff)>>

I've never heard that before so can anyone confirm or deny whether BMC ever used a fine spline in this diff series.
David Billington

Did you get sorted out with a 3.9 Mark?
