MG Midget and Sprite General - fitting Interior

Just started looking at fitting carpets and interior pannels all seem striaight foward except in the carpet set i have a semi circle about 6 inch with a split at the top noidea where that gose and is there any covering for the inside of the B post to cover the hole where the screw plate gose in for the door catch.

I never did find out what that piece is, even with the interior in. It looks as though it SHOULD go somewhere but I can't think where.

BH Harvey

Mark, no idea on the carpet piece, but as I remember the inside of the B pillar is covered with a strip of vinyl that is glued onto the metal directly with the edge covered by the door seal and the top cap. The rear edge is covered by the rear quarter panel and the bottom is hidden by the edge of the carpet. There should be some vinyl included in the interior panel set for that purpose.
B Young

Just a thought, could that just be the cut out for the piece that fits over the tunnel?

Tony Brough

Yep, baffled me too.
Got mine from MGOC - big mistake. Don't see the same bit on this site though - http://www.pjm-motors.co.uk/midget_sprite.html

Im purely guessing that goes inside the upside down horse shoe section that fits between the radio consel and the fire wall

I've done my carpeting twice over the years, and both carpet sets included that piece. Never did figure out where it was supposed to go.

Made my own carpeting and never needed a piece like that.
Rik
Rik Hogan

Rik, why dont you make one of those pieces too?
Its good for bonding here on the bbs so you say like all the others: Ive got one of these stupid pieces left over too! ;)

For the record: I had one of those mysterious half cirkles left over too...
Arie de Best

yet to fit my carpet, but i have that bit and did wonder where it would fit...

glad everyone else is as baffled!

That peice has a specific purpose. To mess up your head and create conversation on here. I pondered for quite a long time with that peice and even when I threw it away I thought I'd done something wrong, so you see in my case it worked quite well.

Mark - the seat belt bolts are 7/16th UNF.
graeme jackson

I got the same piece from the owners club set, called their tech support and they said they had no idea what it was for either, and if I worked it out to let them know!
Gotta love their honesty on it!

mark (1977 1500 Midget) Preston Lancs

Mark,

see below

Nigel At

all of them i found some bolts that fit but no washers been to some local scrap yards but no luck

The semi circle carpet piece has a very very special purpose.

You place it on the drivers side, on the inside of the windscreen, just behind the steering wheel.

Ok Arie, I made one so I can be like everyone else.

Rik Hogan

Decided it should have some binding on it.

Welcome Rik, your officialy one of us now, the brotherhood of those who got this carpetpiece and have no clue what its for.

I must say I have seen a carpet like that before but that was in a seventies adult movie. ;)
Arie de Best

Ah, that bit. It is because they make the kit to fit all the different year models.

It is for the one you don't have.

Or for the newest version that is computer controlled - its a mouse mat.
Guy

just been reading midget reborn by peter berkin and on page 68 he has 2 of these pieces glued up ready to fit but no photo of where they go
mark (1977 1500 Midget) Preston Lancs

I wonder if it goes under the handbrake lever, underneath the main bit of carpet?
Tarquin

I'll bet that if you toss that piece in the bin, as soon as the trash truck disappears around the nearest corner you'll find where it was supposed to fit.

I will have to remember to photo this when i go home later. when i installed new carpet (like 10 years ago) i figured out where those go, there's a small patch where the rear shelf, wheel arches and the vertical panel behind the seats where these fit. It's *almost* covered by the carpet pieces on either side, but this piece can fill the void. I *think* the extra body stiffening of the rubber bumpers eliminates this.
Chris Edwards

Mystery of the piece solved talking to a friend who had a midget in the 80s said when he got his carpets they had instructions with them and the semi circle piece was for covering the seam weld at the front of the rear wheel arches half on each side which just happens to be what i have used mine for because i could not find a piece to cover it.
mark (1977 1500 Midget) Preston Lancs

Of course! we've all been wondering what a semi cicular piece was for, but when you cut it in half it becomes obvious that the pieces go where Chris and Mark have indicated. Thank heaven for that, I thought I would go to my grave never knowing. Now when the time comes, many years from now I hope, I can die a happy man.LOL.

Bernie.

If only I could remember what I have done with this piece of carpet sure it is safe somewhere!!!!!!!!

anybody got any pics of how these front door seal finishers fit AHB9656
mark (1977 1500 Midget) Preston Lancs

Where have you all bought your interior from? Are the ones on eBay anygood? And is £80 - £100 reasonable?

C L Carter

To C L Carter -

I got my interior from Moss. I don't know if Moss USA and Moss UK use the same suppliers, but I was very satisfied with the quality.
