MG Midget and Sprite General - engine capacity
So if my 1275 engine is overbored to 60 thou, what capacity does that make it?

Thanks very much. My insurers wanted to know - never asked before and I wasn't sure. Thought it was about that.

I believe that for insurance purposes you would quote the nominal engine size - 1275cc. I don't believe that the overbore size is relevant to this. Not that it should make any difference to premiums or your cover.

Agree with Guy... it may please you to see 1330 on the registration doc... but... DVLA may argue there's no such thing as an engine of 1330 ccs. And they may want to see an engineers report to ahve confirmation of capacity change. It took me 3 goes to have my Kseries engine capacity acknowledged. LSDL... A

No intention of changing anything, it's a1275 on the log book and that's how it will stay. I already told the insurers that

My insurance company always gets advised of the actual engine size of my Sprite. However, the only reason it says 1275 on the insurance documents is because it doesn't let them print anything other than the original size. If an engine is specifically overbored so it produces more power (like several sizes over) you'd be hard pressed to explain to a nosy copper or your insurer that you didn't need to tell them about it. On the other hand if the block is on it's first rebore and the car is high mileage they might not be that interested.
